🚨 WEATHER WARNING 🚨
With the extreme cold we’re seeing, locks can freeze, jam, and fail—especially car door locks, padlocks, and exterior door hardware. Before you go wrestling with a frozen lock like it owes you money, here’s how to handle it safely:
🔑 If a lock is frozen:
• Use a lock de-icer (best option)
• A hair dryer works great for door locks
• Warm your key with your hands or breath (don’t use open flames 🔥)
• For cars, gently warm the door handle and keyhole, not just the key
🚗 For car locks specifically:
• Spray de-icer directly into the keyway
• Avoid forcing the key — that’s how keys snap
• If possible, start the car remotely and let the interior warm up
❌ What NOT to do:
• Don’t pour hot water on locks (refreezes + damages components)
• Don’t force the key or twist harder
• Don’t use torches, lighters, or “hold my beer” solutions
If you’re locked out or a lock won’t cooperate, call us before you break something expensive. We’ve seen enough winter damage to know cold weather plays dirty.
Stay warm, stay safe!
