CSA Week 5!

Not quite as full this week, but we’re starting to harvest some of our summer veggies, and next week we should have a few new items too.
It’s hard to believe the season is halfway through already!

This week we’ve got:

Swiss chard 🥬
Kale bundles (2-3 varieties combined)
Buttercrunch bibb lettuce (3-4 heads) 🥗Squash & zucchini
Green onions 🧅

COMING SOON:

We have PORK available! If you wanted a hog share but couldn’t commit to that much meat at once, we are now able to offer pork by the pound! Bacon, sausage, pork steaks, ham and more. If you’re interested, reach out about pricing.

CHICKEN-
We are processing our last round of chickens for ourselves on Saturday, June 27th. However, we do have extras available. We will not be processing anymore meat (chicken or pork) until next spring or summer. So if you want to stock up on pastured, organic meat, now is the time. I’ll post a preorder form tomorrow for chickens.

FARMSTAND-
In the coming weeks, the farmstand will be reopening at a new location. We will have some produce and eggs available, and eventually some new canned and baked goods. We’re still unsure of the reopening date, but I’ll update when we know.

I think we’ve reached out to everyone, but at the drop we realized we left all of the radish bunches behind in the fridge 😑 So if you didn’t get any this week- we will make it up to you next week! Sorry about that!

Week 2 has a full bag!

Sugar snap peas 🫛

We will cut the Swiss chard and bok choy just before we get your bags to you, but it wilts extremely fast! Don’t worry, it’s still fine to eat!We recommend getting in the fridge, and even sitting the bottom of the stems in water, and it’ll perk back up. We’d also recommend eating those two things first this week. Be sure to wash everything thoroughly as well- especially this week since it was such a rainy/muddy week!

If anyone wants extra eggs, just let us know and we can bring them with us- you can pay cash or Venmo. We have plenty!

About a week and a half left before our pigs go to processing, and we still have a share or 2 left available! Reach out if you want to claim and get your freezer stocked with pastures raised, organically fed pork. This is our last round of hogs until next summer

It’s about time for hog shares again! This will be our last round this year due to the end of the year being full for us.

➡️After going through our waitlist and keeping some meat for ourselves, we have one whole, or two half hog shares left available!

🐷Our pigs are pasture raised, rotationally grazed, moved to clean, fresh ground every 5-10 days, and are supplemented with organic feed.

🥓Our pork is processed at Sanders Processing in Celestine, IN. Sanders offers different curing options that our family prefers, including uncured smoked bacon and ham, free of nitrates and nitrites (other than naturally present nitrites). You can choose what curing and seasoning options you want when calling to pick your meat cuts. Cure method and cuts do affect butcher fee pricing.

💲Pricing (not including butcher fees)
Half hog share- $450
Whole hog share- $800
This will be paid to us for raising the animal.

➡️Butcher fees are paid at pick up to Sanders. Those fees are $200-250 for a whole hog depending on the animal weight and what kind of curing and cuts you choose. $100-125 for half hog butchering fees depending on weight, cure, and cuts.

➡️A 50% deposit must be paid to us to reserve your share. The rest must be paid 2 weeks before the pigs are taken to be processed.

Just reach out with any questions, additional information, or if you’d like to reserve pork! Meat will be ready for pick up 7-10 days after animal drop off. As of now, these pigs will be going to processing the first week of June, unless we feel like they need a few extra weeks. We will keep communication open on that.
We can help walk you through how to contact Sanders and pick your meat options and when that needs to be done.

❗️Reminder- week 2 pick ups and deliveries will be on TUESDAY next week, due to the holiday on Monday. Stanley/Henderson county people, we will likely bring yours Monday afternoon, but will touch base this weekend!

Week 1 of CSA season is officially underway!
This week’s harvest:

Spring lettuce mix 🥬
Kale
Multi-color lettuce mix 🥬
Green onions 🧅
Oregano
Radishes 🫜
Chives

➡️All lettuces/greens have been lightly rinsed and spun, but we recommend washing everything thoroughly before eating. The two clamshell containers contain the herbs this week, and are labeled on the bottom.

🚙Here is our route/schedule tomorrow night-
We will do our Owensboro deliveries between 4:30 and 4:45.
If you are meeting us at a drop, you can choose between our New Hartford road location from 5-5:10pm, or pick up on Back Square Dr. from 5:30-5:40pm! I will text a reminder along with the addresses of pick up location options tomorrow.

No need to return the bags this year! We opted for quick and easy paper bags rather than the baskets. It just cuts out having to remember those for everyone, including us 😃
