A couple videos of how using the mini excavator really made this project safe and effective.

The last two photos are the finished product.

Everyone involved in this project did an incredible job. There was an obvious concern that more damage would potentially happen during the removal process but we were able to do the entire project without any additional damage to the house or deck. We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved. All told 6 days total of work and multiple crews involved.

Thank you to Franklin, Naun, Dan, Steve Jr., Steve Sr., Luke, Rene, Carlos, Marty, Adolfo, and Juan.

Post 2/3

The first photo is our access road we laid using grindings material as this side of the house was stepped retaining walls.

We utilized concrete blocks and 14x14 timber crane mats to crib up to the trunk before we started the process of removing the tree from the pressure points on the house.

We ended up cribbing up about 18 feet in the end to get to the trunk. We then placed two 40 tons jacks under the log and slowly began to apply pressure.

We were able to lift the two of the three limbs off the house about 2 inches before we started removing the limb wood. The center lead or limb had the most pressure on it.

We utilized our mini excavator with its rotating grapple in order to grab some of the bigger pieces of wood to limit any unwanted movement.

The next two post are going to be of a recent storm job we did in Silver Spring, MD. This Oak uprooted from the woods edge into our customers back yard and landed on their house damaging the roof, deck, and sunroom.

Because of how the tree was growing the trunk had an arch that forced the limbs downward into the ground and house creating unique pressure points on the ground and house.

Another challenge was that the trunk had split from the stump in such a way that the root ball was attached fully to the trunk. We typically prefer it to remain attached to the root ball as it provides a counter lever effect with weight distribution for the trunk wood during the removal process.

Because of how it had broken there was a concern during the removal process the tree could potentially shift and roll further damaging the house.

The third and final challenge to this job was equipment access. Normally we would mobilize one of our cranes to assist with this type of removal but due to the limited access to the rear yard and high voltage lines in the front yard their was not way to safely utilize a crane.
