A sweet new year starts at sundown. Rosh Hashanah begins tonight, when apples are dipped in honey as a wish for the year ahead. Remember to spread love and kindness as you celebrate with friends and family.

It lands on Patriot Day this year. Before the sweetness, the pause: we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and everyone still carrying that morning with them.

In honor of honey month, let's turn back time! ⏱️🇪🇬

Around 4,400 years ago, someone carved the world's first picture of beekeeping into the wall of an Egyptian sun temple.

Not honey hunting. Actual beekeeping. Hives in a row, honey being poured and pressed, jars sealed for storage.

Egyptians believed bees were born from the tears of Ra. A tear fell to earth, touched the ground, and became a bee. Which meant honey was never ordinary. It was divine material.

Their keepers used clay pipe hives and a little smoke. We use a lot of the same patience on the Eastern Shore.

Before the harvest is shared, the first of it is set apart.

The idea is called bikkurim: you bring the first fruits forward, not the leftovers. The First Fruits Royale Trio is our version of that. Three rare single-origin honeys, withheld from the regular line and gathered once for the new year.

Fireweed, delicate and faintly buttery, from the magenta bloom that rises first after wildfire. Wild Lavender, herbaceous with a long finish, drawn from a Spanish field in high summer. Apple Blossom, bright and orchard-sweet, from the orchard in flower. Three terroirs, three colors in the jar, one season.

All three are Star K Kosher certified, and the number of sets is genuinely limited. When this season sells through, the next harvest takes its time.

Most people have never truly tasted honey before. 🍯⁠

Some evenings, after the bees have settled and the garden goes quiet, I like to set the kettle on and open a jar of honey as if I were uncorking a fine bottle of w**e. ✨⁠

Younger folks are often surprised to learn that honey carries the memory of where it came from: wildflowers, clover fields, orange blossoms, deep summer woods. No two are ever quite alike. Your skin is about to smell like the best day the bees ever had.

That's Nectar+Honey. Not honey candy, not floral perfume: real honey crystals in the scrub, our own honey in the butter, and a honey and flower scent that's sweet without being cloying.

Scrub first, on damp skin, and let the sugar and honey crystals dissolve as you go. Then the butter, warmed between your palms, melts in within about thirty seconds. The scent stays close for the first hour and settles into something you only catch when you move.
