The before and after... some opt to get an annual cleaning every few years, instead of every year. Maybe because they use a wood stove, or a pellet stove, mini split heat pumps or whatever. Getting an ANNUAL cleaning is strongly recommended for oil heating systems. You never know what the condition of the burner is on the inside.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE BRIGHT WHITE AND SHINY ELECTRODES, in your oil heating system.
While it is not a 'make or break' situation, to have white and shiny electrodes. It IS important to allow the cad cell eye to see as much of the light that the flame is producing. And the electrodes, being cleaned properly, helps this process by allowing the light to reflect back to the cad cell.
If the electrodes are blackened, the light will not reflect as needed, and could be one of many reasons an oil system can go off on safety (stop running). I recommend all oil heating systems get a cleaning once a year. There is a lot more that goes into a cleaning on an oil heating system then many think. I.E. ..change the nozzle, the strainer, the oil filter to the oil tank. Cleaning burner head of soot or carbon. Taking burner apart to clean fan and air intake. Then obviously vacuuming the heat exchanger and smoke pipe are very important. These are just some things a tech should be doing to ensure a good cleaning. Everything should take about 1 to 1.5 hrs to complete. Sorry for such a long post. A lot of my customers are unaware of many of these things when I would explain to them for the first time. I will be posting everything oil heating, every so often. Thank you
