Bettina teaches hat burning, sea glass art, and sells Fusion paint just to name a few things

I hope that you will stop by to see her and her incredible new space, which is incredibly charming

I was so stunned and humbled to see my little community featured in the ad today 💜

THIS is what I’ve been up to since closing the store 😉

I created an online community where it feels like we are back at the mill chatting about vintage finds, decorating, sharing photos, and for my fellow business owners, how to run a shop and actually get people through your doors

I don’t worry about what’s trendy…only, what I like.

I like vintage things. I like things that are interesting, that have character.

I especially like interesting vintage things with character 😊

That’s why I hung this piece of a vintage organ on my wall.

If no one is questioning your home decor choices, you might be playing it too safe 😉

Most people would have thrown this away.

I actually PAID for it. And, then I hung it on my wall. 😏

After 20+ years of helping people decorate their homes and businesses, I've learned something...

The spaces people remember aren't usually the perfect ones.

They're the ones filled with personality.

The ones that tell a story.

The ones with a few pieces that make people stop and ask,

"Wait... what is THAT?"

For me, one of those things is an old table leg with great detailing hanging on the wall.

Vintage Soul + Modern Edge isn't about following decorating rules.

It's about creating a home, business, and life that feels personal, memorable, and uniquely yours.

Designers call it a statement piece. I call it the thing that makes your house or business yours.

This vintage mannequin gets more comments than anything else in my house.

But it really isn't about the mannequin.

It's because most people play it safe and don't decorate with stuff they are afraid of being judged for.

The rooms that feel collected and memorable usually have unexpected pieces that starts a conversation.

A lot of time, your decor feels cluttered, but you can’t figure out why

Size DOES matter…too many things, especially too many things that are small, the same size, etc, are making your mantel, entryway, tables look cluttered.

Don’t be afraid to go big.

You know what I’ve realized lately?

Most homes don’t need MORE decor.

They need less visual clutter.

I’ve been editing my own house this summer.

The biggest shift has been using fewer, bolder pieces instead of tiny little “filler” decor everywhere.

A wider vase.
A larger piece of art.
An old basket with hydrangeas.
A lamp with presence.

Suddenly the room breathes again.

I already owned all this stuff. I shopped in my own house and moved a few things around a bit.

Anyone else editing their home this season instead of endlessly adding to it? 💜

Howard & headed to Detroit Sunday for a day of history

We started out at Elmwood Cemetery, where they give amazing, free, history tours.

We were fascinated to learn the stories about so many men and women from our city who were true heroes.

My grandparents were young immigrants to this neighborhood from Germany 🇩🇪

We had lunch just a few miles away, at Jacoby's German Biergarten, who still serve some German favorites

I always love to hit the Detroit Historical Museum when I can. Have you been lately? I always learn something when I visit 💜

Howard loves his dessert, and it wouldn’t be a trip to Detroit without stopping at Astoria Pastry Shop in Greektown Detroit
