Most people would have thrown this away.

I actually PAID for it. And, then I hung it on my wall. 😏

After 20+ years of helping people decorate their homes and businesses, I've learned something...

The spaces people remember aren't usually the perfect ones.

They're the ones filled with personality.

The ones that tell a story.

The ones with a few pieces that make people stop and ask,

"Wait... what is THAT?"

For me, one of those things is an old table leg with great detailing hanging on the wall.

Vintage Soul + Modern Edge isn't about following decorating rules.

It's about creating a home, business, and life that feels personal, memorable, and uniquely yours.

So tell me...

What's one thing in your home that everyone else thinks is a little weird, but you absolutely love? 👇💜

Designers call it a statement piece. I call it the thing that makes your house or business yours.

This vintage mannequin gets more comments than anything else in my house.

But it really isn't about the mannequin.

It's because most people play it safe and don't decorate with stuff they are afraid of being judged for.

The rooms that feel collected and memorable usually have unexpected pieces that starts a conversation.

A lot of time, your decor feels cluttered, but you can’t figure out why

Size DOES matter…too many things, especially too many things that are small, the same size, etc, are making your mantel, entryway, tables look cluttered.

Don’t be afraid to go big.

You know what I’ve realized lately?

Most homes don’t need MORE decor.

They need less visual clutter.

I’ve been editing my own house this summer.

The biggest shift has been using fewer, bolder pieces instead of tiny little “filler” decor everywhere.

A wider vase.
A larger piece of art.
An old basket with hydrangeas.
A lamp with presence.

Suddenly the room breathes again.

I already owned all this stuff. I shopped in my own house and moved a few things around a bit.

Anyone else editing their home this season instead of endlessly adding to it? 💜

I just posted a video going into more detail on my YouTube channel. The link is in the comments

I hope everyone had a restful, meaningful weekend 💜

Howard & headed to Detroit Sunday for a day of history

We started out at Elmwood Cemetery, where they give amazing, free, history tours.

We were fascinated to learn the stories about so many men and women from our city who were true heroes.

My grandparents were young immigrants to this neighborhood from Germany 🇩🇪

We had lunch just a few miles away, at Jacoby's German Biergarten, who still serve some German favorites

I always love to hit the Detroit Historical Museum when I can. Have you been lately? I always learn something when I visit 💜

Howard loves his dessert, and it wouldn’t be a trip to Detroit without stopping at Astoria Pastry Shop in Greektown Detroit

What are some of your favorite things to do in Detroit??

Happy Memorial Day 🇺🇸

One of the reasons I’ve always loved old homes, historic buildings, antique shops, and places layered with age and character…is because they quietly hold stories.

Memorial Day isn’t just the unofficial start of summer. It’s a reminder that freedom, family, community, and even the small peaceful moments we enjoy today came at a cost for many before us.

Howard & I went to Elmwood Cemetery yesterday for their Memorial Day tour which highlighted many stories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

I took this photo in their Civil War section.

Taking a quiet moment today to appreciate the stories, sacrifices, and lives that came before ours. 💜

Whoever said chicken roaster was correct 😳 when I asked in my previous post what this is

After much discussion st the rummage sale, I looked it up on google. I saw “Drunken Chicken Cooker” stamped on the bottom

I guess you put beer 🍺 in, sit the chicken on top, and roast away

I’m going to use it for a candle holder, I think, or a planter…

I just liked the way it looks 💜

What is this??I bought this at a rummage sale. I am not even sure what I’m going to do with it, but I just liked it

My favorite kind of night looks like:
something simmering on the stove,
candles lit for no reason,
classic rock playing,
Howard home,
and the house finally starting to feel more like this next chapter of life we’re building.

Also probably too many pillows.
But we’re not discussing that. 😂💜

Yesterday’s post made me realize a lot of us have been craving the same thing…

We are tired of chasing trends and trying to fit into someone else’s version of what life, home, style, or business “should” look like.

We know what we like.

And life isn’t always perfect. We are tired of pretending that it is.

We want homes, businesses, and lives that reflect that

Collected.
Personal.
Warm.
A little imperfect.
A little rebellious.
Actually lived in.

Not “influencer perfect.”
Not cold.
Not copied from everyone else online.

Back in 2008, I opened the kind of store I wanted to shop in because I couldn’t find the middle ground between a high-end boutique and Kmart. 😂

I wanted to shop in a store that looked like how I decorated, mixing the old with the new.

Now I’m finding the same thing online.

As my friend Vicki said,
“Everyone on there is young and skinny with white teeth.” 😂

I’ll add:
perfect houses, endless budgets, and lives that don’t even feel real.

So here I am again…
creating the kind of channel I actually want to follow.

If you’ve been looking for your kind of people too, come hang out with me there. 💜
