To check if freeze protection is active on your Hayward Variable Speed Pump (VSP), you need to determine whether the pump is controlled by its own onboard keypad or by an external automation system like OmniLogic or ProLogic.
1. If checking on the Pump Keypad (No Automation)
Most Hayward VSP pumps (like the Super Pump VS or TriStar VS) have a hidden configuration menu where freeze protection (often called "Low Temp Operation") is managed.
Unlock the Menu: Press the < and > arrow buttons simultaneously and hold them for several seconds until the screen changes to the "Configuration Menu."
Navigate: Use the arrow buttons to scroll through the settings until you see "Low Temp Operation" or "Freeze Protect."
Check Status: It will say either "Enabled" or "Disabled." * Check Threshold: If you scroll one step further, it will show the activation temperature (typically default is 34°F to 38°F).
To Exit: Press the Menu button to save and exit.
2. If checking on OmniLogic (App or Wall Panel)
If your pump is wired to a Hayward OmniLogic system, the pump's own keypad is usually disabled, and settings must be checked via the Omni interface.
Look for the Icon: On the home screen of the OmniLogic app or local panel, look for a snowflake icon or the words "Freeze Protect" next to the filter pump status.
System Settings: Go to Service Mode > Configuration > Config Wizard. Navigate to the "Filter Pump" section. There will be a toggle for "Freeze Protection."
Speed Check: You can also see the "Freeze Protect Speed" here, which is the RPM or % the pump will run at when the sensor hits the threshold.
3. If checking on ProLogic / AquaLogic (Older Panels)
View Current Status: Press the > arrow button to scroll through the "Default Menu." It will show the current air temperature. If the system is currently in freeze protection mode, the display will alternate between the time and "Freeze Protect".
Check Settings:
1. Press Menu until "Configuration Menu" appears.
2. Unlock by holding < and > for 5–10 seconds.
3. Scroll to "Filter Config".
4. Scroll until you see "Freeze Protection"; it will say "Enabled" or "Disabled."
