Celebrate America's 250 by adding some true American nostalgia to your garden this year.
Thomas Jefferson grew Whippoorwill Peas at Monticello Gardens in the late 1700's.
Whippoorwill are a highly productive and very tasty variety of Cowpeas.
These are Heirloom seed.
Cowpeas can be planted anytime in Zone 8B from the first part of April until at least the end of July.

Hoping everyone's garden is growing well and you're enjoying the abundance of fresh produce this time of year brings. 🥒🍅🫑

Here is a great, simple recipe for preserving cucumbers.

Half Sour Salt Brined Refrigerator Pickles
These will keep for at least 4-6 weeks
Makes about 3 pint jars

Per Jar
1/2 teaspoon of the following
Coriander
Mustard Seed
Black Peppercorns
(Optional to lightly grind these)
1 small or 1/2 large Bay leaf
1 clove crushed Garlic
1 spring fresh Dill or 1/2-1 teaspoon dried Dill
Appox. 6 Cucumbers about 2 per jar

For the batch, dissolve 1/4 Cup Kosher or Canning Salt in 4 cups of purified water. I use a half gallon mason jar and shake til the salt has dissolved.

Wash and slice cucumbers, pack into pint size mason jars. Add spices, garlic and Dill.
Fill jars with salt water. Add lids and bands and date your jars. Place in refrigerator. Wait at least 3 days for the brine to work, then enjoy!

This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
