A great little winter break project. We converted our attached single car garage into a fortress of solitude for my wife to relax and entertain... all in the theme of the Friends TV Show. If your familiar, you'll notice the room is now modeled after Monica's living room from the set. When we went to paint, and my wife said "Purple", I was scratching my head, but I trusted her and I think it turned out great.

So, what did we do?
1. Ceiling First, Removed the texture, patched the holes, flattened, and painted.
2. Framed 2 new walls. Insulated the walls. Added a new electrical circuit on its own breaker because there were no receptacles. Then drywalled and painted.
3. Removed a pesky, poorly located water spigot that was in here.
4. Installed closet doors, to hide our still present storage areas.
5. Trimmed it out, window casings, base board, etc.
6. Sealed the garage door, which can essentially be considered a metal insulated wall, so that we have no air leakage.
7. Installed new, crystal sparkle (girly) light fixtures.
8. Applied Garage Floor Epoxy Coating (Similar color to Monica's Floors.)
9. Paint Paint Paint.
10. Decorate, decorate, decorate.

I like how Dominion sends this graph out, it excites my competitive nature. If you would like to know how to save money on your home energy, I can help. My home is considered better than efficient, and although I do have a solar array, both my wife and myself work from home. This means, we're using the homes electricity all day, every day, when some of the folks we're competing against in the graph below are leaving for their 9-5 with all their lights off and their programable thermostat set to only care about the temperature just before they get home. You may not believe in global warming and that's fine, but what everyone believes in is having as much money as they can to enjoy life. Don't let your home simply drain your bank account. My average energy bill is less than 40$... how much is yours? The difference might be 2 or 3 more date nights, or a trip to Kings Dominion, or a good steak meal each month.

If you don't like your answer to my last question, and you want to do something about it, let me know, I can help get you there.

PS... I also wrote a 4.6 Star Home Energy Book, "Kilowatt Accounting" which you can get on Amazon, which will save you much more money if applied that the few dollars it costs.

So, you or your WIFE get your heart set on that piece of furniture you see on Amazon. It says it ships in two boxes. Each box weighs 200 pounds and has 10,000 little screws. Your looking at an 8 hour day assembling all the drawers and doors and everything else...
IF... you want someone else to build it... I can help. Just give me a call

Drop ceilings, not sure why more people dont have them??
Drop ceilings are super convienent for repairs like water leaks. They quickly show discoloration, the panels are easy to remove to gain access to electrical and plumbing in the ceiling, and they are easy to replace if needed. They look good and install much faster than drywall. You can get the panels with very stylish designs as well.
The pictures here are from a recent repair. If you're interested in something like this, give me a shout.

Alot of the struggle with DIY is having the tools to do the job.... in this instance... a 28' ladder. This ladder pushed $400 and takes up a ton of space to get used very rarely.... Pros and Cons
Anyways, I guess the high winds last week caught the flashing on this facia like a sail and rattled out the little nails. Fixed up with just a little Elevated work and some self piercing screws!

I do rent my out tools btw... Just ask.

Little bit of drywall work after some water damage. Once again, I want to say that the people of Fluvanna County are a pleasure to work for!!

Water damage will swell and hurt the structure of the drywall. In this case, there was about 36" of feathering on the ceiling due to some swelling, but it turned out great. The ceiling wasnt painted, just primed.

In the Laundry room, I also move the dryer plug over for a future plan for a stacked washer dryer combo. Smart move while doing the drywall worknand having the framing exposed.

I have looked like a snowman several days in a row. Sorry about the dust Casey.

Carpentar Bees... have you ever wondered how bad those holes get???

I replaced a facia board for a customer (with - new pretty PVC board) that had been destroyed by bees and wood peckers. Very hard job with as windy as it was last weekend while only having two hands. Anyways, check out these huge tunnels the bees dig. They are atleast 3/4 inch in diameter and run all the way down the boards. The boards didnt have any rot, just tunnels.. and there were some live bees living inside... not what you want to fall out when you're on a ladder.

Anyways... I thought it was some interesting show and tell.
