Now that the summer flowers are all in the ground, I felt like it was finally time for me to sit down and give a little life update.
This fall our youngest is going off to college. I’ve said for years that flower farming was something I sort of stumbled into but really it was something God gave me to do in the “in-between” season I was in. When we first moved into this house I had recently retired from my cleaning, organizing and home remodeling blog, but I was still in the throws of motherhood. I was a full-time mom, but also wanted more to do—which is where flower farming came into the picture. Flowers were something God gave me to do, to keep me busy until the next season of life came.
And here we are at the doorstep of a new season—in August both our girls will be out of the house and we will officially be empty nesters.
I am committed to this summer of flowers, and will finish with excellence, but this journey is coming to a close. I can’t go back to not growing flowers, so there will be flowers on a smaller scale but this summer will be my final season of subscriptions and Pick Your Own Parties.
I’m not sure what the next season will bring but I am excited for the next chapter to begin. Right now I’m just taking it one day at a time and following where the Lord is leading me.
I have learned so much through flowers—more than I ever thought possible. One of the things I have enjoyed the most has been bringing people into the process. The Planting Party has become one of my favorite traditions, delivering flowers and seeing the joy they bring people has been a huge highlight, and then ending the season with Pick Your Own Parties has been such a joy. I love having people in the garden and whether they’re planting a seed or picking a bouquet, I feel like the people—not the flowers—are what it’s truly all about.
I know there are 5 months of flowers to go but if you’ve made it this far in the text, I want to say “thank you” from the bottom of my heart for being on this journey with me, for trusting me to curate flowers for you, and for being one of the most important parts of this journey for me.
