A British couple, Roy and Grace, were moving their parrot Magic to a friend's place. Normal carrier, two padlocks on it, nothing fancy. By the time they arrived - both
locks picked, cage empty, bird gone. A Senegal parrot. About the size of a grapefruit.
They found him eventually. But that's not really the point.
If a bird with a beak can figure out a cheap padlock in the back of a moving car, what do you think someone with actual tools and five minutes on your porch is going to
do?
I've been doing this for years and I still get called to houses where the deadbolt isn't even screwed into the frame properly. Builder-grade stuff from ten years ago.
People assume "there's a lock on the door" means "the door is locked." It doesn't always.
If you haven't had someone actually look at your locks since you moved in - might be worth it. Takes twenty minutes. Usually cheaper than people think.
Anyway. Funny bird. Serious lesson.
