Funkit 🤝 Murals. Some walls deserve more than a coat of paint, so for this one we teamed up with Murals to bring something different into the space.

Follow one booking backwards. The guest picked a vacation rental out of a grid of thumbnails, confirmed the choice at the front door, and decided how to describe the stay from the back patio. Three moments, three disciplines: interior design, exterior design, landscape design. Short term rental design that covers only the first one leaves the other two to whatever the builder happened to do. That is how an Airbnb ends up with warm reviews and quiet weeks, which is an STR design problem.

That project became proof that designing beyond the data, with amenity packed yards, themed spaces and unique, memorable moments, consistently drives more bookings and increases ROI. After that, .design was born, and we've designed hundreds of top performing STRs since. ⭐️

Something worth noticing in Airbnb design: the room that photographs best is almost never the one with the most furniture in it. It is the one with a clear idea and enough space to see it. That principle scales past interior design. Exterior design decides whether a short term rental looks cared for from the road, and landscape design decides whether the outdoor photo was worth taking at all. STR design is mostly editing, and vacation rental design suffers in the places where nobody edits.

For years, you knew us as Funkit Interiors. But we've never just designed interiors, so it was time our name reflected the work. Welcome to Funkit Design House: same team, bigger vision, much more than interiors. 🤝

The argument against spending on short term rental design is that guests stay a weekend and never notice the details. They do not notice them. They notice the photos, and the photos are made of details. An Airbnb that reads flat at thumbnail size loses to one that reads clearly, and the difference is usually exterior design and landscape design rather than more furniture indoors. Vacation rental design is less about impressing someone in the room than about winning the scroll before they arrive.
