Did you know as part of my service I remove a full car load of donations after every session at no additional charge? For items too large to fit into my car, I coordinate pick up with one of my favorite local hauling partners.

It is incredibly important to me that your items get re-homed or recycled correctly. Here are just a few of the places I regularly donated to:

- Eyeglasses: Village Optical for Lions Clubs International

- U.S. Flags: Flag retirement bin in Berwyn or a VFW (did you know that flags should never be thrown into the trash?)

- Women’s & Men’s Workwear: The Wardrobe in Exton benefits those in life and work transitions

- Books: Project HOME which helps families break the cycle of homelessness and poverty

- Textiles: Clothes, linens and towels with stains or tears that cannot be donated go directly to Helpsy to be responsibly recycled

- Kids’ Shoes & Clothing: Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia distributes these to local families in need

More super-fun kids’ projects last week!

Kids generally don’t know HOW to put things away, if they don’t know WHERE to put them away. Here are a few tips to help keep play areas neat(er):

1- Establish zones. These typically include identifying areas for things like puzzles/board games, arts & crafts, dress up, music, Barbies and Lego’s.

2- Designate adequate space. Have large bins, baskets and shelves for storage. Kids do not tend to put things away neatly, so there should be more storage space than you think you need.

3- Make it easy. No one - especially children - wants to think a lot about how to put something away. Clearly label each zone and walk them through where everything goes.

4 - Get their input. Ask if they want paint brushes in a bin with a lid or in an open jar. Ask what toys they play with most so they are easily accessible. Ask what they no longer use so you can donate them and make more room for them to play!

• Deeper Play: Fewer toys can lead to more creativity. Without the overwhelm, kids engage in longer, more imaginative play sessions.

• I Did It!: An organized room builds independence. When they know where everything "lives," they stop asking you where it is and start taking ownership.

• Calmness: Just like us, kids feel the stress of a messy room. A tidy space lowers cortisol and creates a calm sanctuary for sleep.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our 2026 Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia Donation Drive!! We collected lots of much needed items.

I was so happy to be able to personally deliver them yesterday before I (and my friends from Greater Philadelphia Chapter, NAPO) had the great opportunity to volunteer there!
