Future Master Gardener 🪴

Abby spent the morning helping her taekwondo school and our local Master Gardeners plant and mulch at the library, getting it cleaned up for spring during Clean Sweep. This girl didn’t want gloves and wanted to be right in the middle of it all getting her hands dirty.

We love giving her so many different ways to grow her love of gardening & can’t wait to see where this interest takes her!

“Mom! I’m still doing school! I’m practicing handwriting & spelling! I get to do math! Science! Life skills lesson because now I know how to grow food!”

Opening day for the Paragould Farmers' Market is a little over a month away! Abby is working hard to transplant tomato plants today (which will be available for sale) as well as get her tomato bed ready for production growing. Can’t wait to see everyone at the pavilion on May 13th!

True leaves coming out means it’s transplant day for these summer squash. Abby will keep a couple of these to harvest from this season, but the rest will be available as starter plants for your garden when the Paragould Farmers' Market opens on May 13th!

Lots of seedlings starting to pop up today. ☺️

Checking on everything with Abby this morning and she loved how the leaves were holding onto the little dew drops created by our greenhouses. 🥰

Praying these little guys keep growing strong and can withstand transplanting into bigger containers and the outside garden in a few short weeks.

New grow lights and shelves came in this week! Seeds for the 2023 season have been started!

So far Abby has:
•beefsteak tomatoes
•cherry tomatoes
•summer squash
•zucchini
•two varieties of cucumbers
•bell peppers
•banana peppers

Waiting for one more set of lights to come in next week in order to start broccoli & green onions. Maybe some sunflowers too.

Y’all pray that this spring isn’t as wet and soggy as last year and these seeds actually make it into the ground outside. 🙏🏻🤞🏻

Hello!!

It’s been a LOOOONG off season, but planting and seed starting is right around the corner.

When I (mom 👋🏻) saw that the Master Gardeners were hosting a lunch and learn about seed starting, I knew we needed to come.

Hoping to learn a lot of helpful things for a more successful growing and harvesting season in 2023!

July was ROUGH, but Abby kept these tomato plants alive to HOPEFULLY get in even a small, late season crop.

The garden has been a great learning experience for all of us & even if we get nothing from it this year, we’ll carry those lessons into next season for sure.

Abby harvested her first vegetable over the weekend! The slugs had slightly gotten to this one, which made it unable to sell, and since we don’t eat eggplant we gifted it to our neighbors for them to add to their dinner that night. That’s okay though because she already has another eggplant growing!

The tomatoe plants behind her have flowered like crazy in the last few weeks so we’re praying all those flowers will turn into fruit in the next few weeks! Our small garden this year has helped us empathize with our local farmers this season as we all struggle with drought conditions and high temperatures. This season hasn’t been easy, but it sure has been fun.
