It’s taking everything in me to not ask the Chief Chicken Tender for a heated and cooled coop…. BUT he has assured me the girls are prepared for the 27 feet of snow and Arctic air that’s headed our way.
Electric to the coop is a blessing! Added vitamins to their heated water, increased their protein intake and added additional bedding. ❄️❄️❄️

Happy 2026!
The girls have really picked up on their egg laying duties. They have a light on in the coop for about 10 minutes after sunset to help stretch the days. The milder start to our winter even has allowed for some free rangeing days.

People often ask if I will get eggs and sell them. Yes, our chickens will lay eggs, but I chose a breed with reasonable production levels. When researching chicken breeds, I had specific requirements:
1. Large size was a priority. 2. A calm and gentle nature was crucial for my intentions and interaction. 3. Varied and visually appealing color patterns were also essential. The Brahma breed fit my needs perfectly.
I also ensured that my birds came from a reputable hobby breeder, avoiding large hatcheries and big-box stores. My flock includes Isabel and Light color patterns. Also 4 of them are a splash and dark partridge from a color breeding project. We hope to add Dark and Buff in the coming year.
