Did you know that a 25-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty stands in the middle of the Susquehanna River? The metal statue was dropped into place by a helicopter in 1997, but it wasn't the first Miniature Statue of Liberty to stand where the river flows through Dauphin County. An earlier 18-foot statue made of plywood and Venetian blinds was placed on the same railroad piling as a plank in 1986 and stood until it was blown over and destroyed in 1992—long enough to become a local icon.
