A little break from lock talk: December 15th celebrates national cupcake day! It’s time this debate is settled once and for all. Are cupcakes eaten from the top down or ripped in half to make a cupcake sandwich? People who eat cupcakes with a fork need not apply!

We’d also like to take a moment to remind our clients that crime often increases during this time of year. Here’s a few tips to keep your home of business safe during this holiday season!
It's important to make sure that all of your doors and windows close and lock, properly and effortlessly. Doors shouldn’t ever be difficult to open, close, or lock/unlock.
In addition to securing your doors, there are a few other things you can do to keep your home or business safe during the holiday season. Be sure to keep your property well-lit, both inside and outside, to deter potential burglars. Consider adding security cameras or a doorbell camera to provide additional security and peace of mind. Also consider investing in a safe to lock up your valuables.

As winter fades and spring starts working it’s magic, our spring cleaning list is always big. Consider adding a quick inspection to your doors as an item! Doors should open and close smoothly and easily. You should be able to easily operate the deadbolt. Your key should go into, out of, and turn easily in the lock. You shouldn’t ever have to push or pull on a door to make it latch and stay closed properly. The gaps on the sides and top of the door should be close to even. Keeping your doors and hardware properly maintained is a great way to make sure you’re never locked out or dealing with broken hardware at a bad time. If your doors don’t pass this quick inspection give us a call!

Did you know the average police response time is over 10 minutes? A good set of locks being properly installed is only one pillar of home security. After your locks you need good doors. After some quality doors would be a good alarm system which is monitored, lights and cameras as well are a detterant. Your last line of defense against an intruder would be a fi****ms. Thieves will always find a way with enough time and determination. In this particular scenario the thief took the quiet brute force attack with a crowbar, instead of loudly smashing out the glass. Good locks are only one pillar of home security! Good lighting, a doorbell / security camera, a good alarm company, and lastly a dog are all great additions to add along with a good SOLID CORE door to help prevent someone making quick work right past your deadbolt lock!
