When doing a remodel, the most important skill is seeing beyond what is there. In this primary bathroom, the beautiful window and nature beyond was obscured by an overly complicated set up, including a raised tub, columns and carpet! Stripping it back to the essentials, and accentuating the arch with two new niches, which also functions as accessible storage, allows the architecture and the new concrete tub to shine. Thank you to the clients for seeing the vision.

Creating spaces to entertain guests is such a fun part of designing interiors. Imagining all the fun after the work and decisions are made is a great motivator.

Image #1 - We updated this wet bar in our project to create a new arch and used a variation of the zellige tile found throughout the home. More efficient cabinetry and an extended seating area makes this space truly functional.

Image #2 - The butler’s pantry in our is the perfect place day or night. This small space not only holds a built in espresso machine for the mornings, but also all the requisite bar supplies for the evening. Located between the kitchen and the dining room, it’s the perfect spot for prep or an intimate drink.

Image #3 - The dry bar in our project was created to move the entertaining hub out of the kitchen and into the large living/dining area to improve flow, with easy access to the outdoor patio and dockside living. An ice maker and wine fridge fits perfectly in this petite spot.

Repeat clients are the best, especially when they go in a completely different design direction. Our project were clients that we had previously worked with on a traditional Georgian home in Pasadena. When they purchased their new home on Naples Island in Long Beach, they wanted something entirely different. Using midcentury modern design as an inspiration, with acid green and navy blue accents, we gave this complete remodel a new identity.

The sightline in the kitchen is amazing, thanks in part to the new arched entries on either side. This entire space is new but looks like it was always part of this historic home, thanks in large part to . Decorative lighting over the island and against the far draw your eye through the space, and the colorful artwork adds the perfect focal point to this neutral space.

Oftentimes the most difficult spaces turn out to be the most successful. This is the smallest room in the project, but we were able to pack in a lot of storage and detail. The "headboard" is a built in bump out that goes the width of the room, but is low enough to allow the custom digital wallpaper to make an impact. It also serves as a space for display and storage behind the bed, and houses the bedside sconces and wall hung nightstands. Having those nightstands wall hang visually opens up the space and creates more room below them. The platform bed has 6 drawers that holds everything from uniforms, to sheets, to random boy things. For even more storage, and since there is no space for a dresser, we built out the closet with 4 drawers and open shelving, including an outlet and tv hook up. Thoughtful design create optimal function.

Our project featured three kids’ rooms and three adjoining bathrooms. We wanted to keep them consistent while allowing each to have their own personality. Each featured custom wall hung vanities and wall mounted faucets, with the same lighting and mirrors, but we varied the flooring and wall tiles in each space. The result is a classic modern look that will stand the test of time.

I always strive for a balance between simplicity and interesting details when designing a space. In our project, I knew I wanted a simple palette in the kitchen, but I wasn't happy with just an all white or all wood kitchen. As a solution, we installed open shelving above the upper cabinets, in that space that is either open or that you can't reach anyways. This allowed for a display area as well as a natural wood detail to break up all the white. Likewise, I spent a lot of time finding just the right pendant lights. Something that wouldn't be too intrusive, but wasn't the same old glass ball that you see everywhere. These handmade pendants from were the perfect answer. A bespoke solution that works perfectly with the simplicity of the space while adding a handmade element.

Our project had great bones, and a perfect layout for the family, but it was sometimes hard to see the potential beyond the mauve carpet and indoor fountain. Case in point, this living area. The plaster fireplace and bookshelf are both classic and contemporary, so we decided to leave them. Brightening up the space with new paint and toning down the wood ceiling, allows you to notice the architectural details that were otherwise obscured by too much color and too many differing materials. Now it's a space that will stand the test of time, regardless of the furnishings surrounding it.
