More than just picking out finishes, designers are intimately involved in how you live your life in order to help you make the best decisions about how to design your home. In the case of our project, we knew that the morning coffee ritual was important (when is it not?), and that with 3 daughters, the dishwasher was the hardest working appliance in the home. Armed with this information, we designed a hidden coffee station behind the cabinet doors on the left, and double dishwashers with matching panels so they didn't feel like they were in a restaurant kitchen. The effect allows the kitchen to stay tidy and looking good will still being functional for a busy family.⁠

Not only does your life transition when kids go away to college, so does your home. In our project, the kids back and forth from college to home and leaving the nest permanently soon, so we had to take a look at how their bedrooms would function. This one became guest room and part time office, with a masculine design. Wool suiting fabrics reflect this house with 3 boys, but keep it sophisticated and mature. A marble and walnut desk offers ample space for those WFH days that seem to multiply.⁠

I'm down to one kid at home since my older son is off at college, which means theoretically the bathroom should stay cleaner. Growing up my mom gave us all lessons on how to clean the house: how to make your bed and how to clean the bathroom being the most important. I've done the same with my boys, so that when they eventually do go out on their own, they know how to take care of themselves. Now adulting isn't so hard for my older son, and I'm sure that his roommate appreciates the fact that he knows how to clean a bathroom. ⁠

These summer nights are HOT! We try to open the windows at night to give the A/C a break, but it's important to options with your bedding. All our our bedroom projects include sourcing high quality bedding with options for the seasons. Right now we are using a thin quilt, in the fall we move to a duvet and down comforter, and then we have the option to use both the quilt and duvet, but honestly in California, that rarely happens. Since everyone sleeps differently, it's nice to have options ready to go in case of a weather change like we've been having.⁠

It's been a busy summer but I'm getting back into the swing of things, including posting "What's for Dinner" to help busy families with ideas for meals now that everyone is back in school. Check it out in the stories 👆We've been enjoying a lot of summer produce from our two farmer's markets here in Malibu, and the menus reflect that. Plus, a new cookbook purchase "Lush Life" from has inspired me. I love cookbooks that are separated by season, and this one has bonus material on gardening - my next project!⁠

When doing a remodel, the most important skill is seeing beyond what is there. In this primary bathroom, the beautiful window and nature beyond was obscured by an overly complicated set up, including a raised tub, columns and carpet! Stripping it back to the essentials, and accentuating the arch with two new niches, which also functions as accessible storage, allows the architecture and the new concrete tub to shine. Thank you to the clients for seeing the vision.⁠

Creating spaces to entertain guests is such a fun part of designing interiors. Imagining all the fun after the work and decisions are made is a great motivator.⁠

Image #1 - We updated this wet bar in our project to create a new arch and used a variation of the zellige tile found throughout the home. More efficient cabinetry and an extended seating area makes this space truly functional.⁠

This small space not only holds a built in espresso machine for the mornings, but also all the requisite bar supplies for the evening. Located between the kitchen and the dining room, it’s the perfect spot for prep or an intimate drink.⁠

Image #3 - The dry bar in our project was created to move the entertaining hub out of the kitchen and into the large living/dining area to improve flow, with easy access to the outdoor patio and dockside living. An ice maker and wine fridge fits perfectly in this petite spot.⁠

Repeat clients are the best, especially when they go in a completely different design direction. Our project were clients that we had previously worked with on a traditional Georgian home in Pasadena. When they purchased their new home on Naples Island in Long Beach, they wanted something entirely different. Using midcentury modern design as an inspiration, with acid green and navy blue accents, we gave this complete remodel a new identity.⁠

This entire space is new but looks like it was always part of this historic home, thanks in large part to . Decorative lighting over the island and against the far draw your eye through the space, and the colorful artwork adds the perfect focal point to this neutral space.⁠
