Another peek into our recent feature with Sunset Magazine! For this Smoke Tree Ranch project, we designed a completely new kitchen and great room addition, creating a more expansive, light-filled gathering space that flows seamlessly to the outdoors.

The addition reimagined how the home functions, connecting cooking, dining, and entertaining while framing views of the surrounding desert landscape. Thoughtfully integrated with the existing architecture, the new spaces serve as one cohesive hub for everyday living and hosting.

Set within Palm Springs’ historic Smoke Tree Ranch, this 1930s California ranch has been thoughtfully reimagined for modern desert living, balancing preservation with a deeply layered, personal interior approach.

From custom millwork and artisanal craftsmanship to warm, natural materials and a palette inspired by the surrounding desert landscape, every detail was designed to honor the home’s history while embracing a new chapter.

Stepping inside de Gournay’s Los Angeles residence felt like entering a living work of art. From hand-painted wallpapers to intricate porcelain painting and embroidery demonstrations, witnessing the artistry behind each detail was such a special experience!

Designers were even invited to try their hand at the crafts themselves. Such an incredible experience that only deepened the appreciation for the incredible skill, patience, and talent behind these timeless techniques.

And of course, the residence itself was absolutely stunning. Thank you to the team for such a beautiful and inspiring evening!
