White Wild Indigo and Beardtongue 😍 both of these are currently blooming in our prairies and we are absolutely loving it!

We have a few left of both of these at Lynd Fruit Farm! About a dozen or so of White Wild Indigo and the final tray of Beardtongue. Both are early summer bloomers that have a long bloom time. A mature White Wild Indigo will have several blooming stems that come in succession giving you weeks worth of blooms!

We have nearly 30 other species still available as well! This is the FINAL WEEK for Native plants for 2026 - Sunday (May 31) is the last day!

The market is open 10-5pm today thru Sunday.

We still have Purple Coneflower available!

This is a must-have for any native planting. The classic coneflower is vibrant and loved by all - birds, bees, butterflies and us!

The nectar feeds thousands of native bumble bees and butterflies, and the seeds feed flocks of gold finches in the fall and winter. Often times, it’s a battle between us and the birds for seed collecting! The birds usually win, but we do harvest enough for the greenhouse and planting projects while leaving plenty for our feathered friends.

Purple Coneflower pairs well with Wild Bergamot and Virginia mountain mint (both of which are still available as well!)

Last day to purchase plants is this Sunday, May 31st. You can buy the plants at Lynd Fruit Farm today thru Sunday 10-5pm.

Final week for native plants! Sunday, May 31 is the LAST day to get your plants at Lynd Fruit Farm for the 2026 season.

🌟All of the remaining native plants are 25% off! (Now only $3/each!)

The greenhouse is almost empty, with just a few trays and a few stock plants left, and after this Sunday (May 31st) we will be donating all leftover plants.

Attached below is a screen shot of the remaining species on display - around 40 different species still!

A word from Alex & Grace:

"It’s been such a great season, and we have sold more plants than in previous years. We began with an AMAZING first day in April, and then last Saturday we had a great experience at Wild Ones Columbus’ Native Plant Sale where we pretty much sold out in 2 hrs. We love seeing native plants “trending” and can’t wait to see the impact it will have on the future - we can only hope that it keeps up momentum!

Now that the Greenhouse season is coming to an end, we are switching gears and heading in to seed collection. We’ve already begun collecting spring bloomers and are keeping an eye on several others, waiting until the seed is at peak ripeness.

FYI, we will have just a few plants to bring to the Pollinator Palooza at Franklin Park Conservatory on June 20th - we’ll see you there!"

In case you didn't know, "Monarch Meadows Native Plant Nursery" is a small sector of Lynd Fruit Farm run by Alex and Grace. We own 2 small greenhouses in which we grow the wonderful native plants in the spring and sell on the Porch of the Market starting around Earth Day and ending the first of June. The rest of the year, Alex and Grace do various jobs around the farm.

The sun is shining and the natives have been re-stocked! We still have a great selection, but some species are beginning to sell out - we are sold out of Nodding Onion, bicknells sedge, wild geranium, Savanna and Scaly Blazing star, green headed coneflower, wild petunia, Ohio goldenrod, and arrow leaved violet.

Lynd Fruit Farm (where the plants are displayed) is open until 5 today! And if you already brought home some little plant babies, make sure you protect them from tonight’s cold temperatures! These little plants are tender and may not be able to handle to cold as well as mature plants.

Lynd Fruit farm is open Wed-Sun 10-5pm. The plants will be here each day through May (or until sold out!)

Nature waits for no one.

This is what happens when you don’t check your seed often enough- it begins to germinate in the bag! In the fall, we put all of our seed into cold-moist stratification to begin the germination process. Most native plants (and perennials in general) have dormancy mechanisms that protect the seed from germinating before the conditions are just right.

While there are a few different methods we use, most of the seed gets the same pre-treatment: placed in a bag with a small amount of damp potting mix and placed in a refrigerator out in our barn. Then when the time comes, we pull out the bag and sow it in the greenhouse according to each species.

This past week when we pulled out all the seeds to organize them in preparation for sowing, we noticed a few species had begun to germinate! Jacob’s Ladder, Bishop’s Cap, Wild Geranium and Dwarf Larkspur. Notice anything in common about these 4 species?

They’re all spring bloomers. The spring species love the cooler temperatures and these decided that the fridge was the perfect temp to begin growing- so out to the greenhouse they went! Hopefully they survive the transplant. We’ll see in a few weeks!
