Friends and local business owners: we have received two shady requests online and via Facebook for estimates this week. Both customers requested tree work at homes that are currently listed for sale. They asked for "all the trees" to be cut down and asked for the ability to pay by credit card. When we asked for additional information on the scope of the work, they could not mark the trees or meet us because they are living out of state. They both also refused to speak on the phone. We don't know if this is potentially a scam or how such a scam would work, but the two situations were nearly identical and that made us suspicious. We decided to err on the side of caution and declined to work with both of these people. We wanted to share our experience so that local business owners and friends in the area who have homes for sale would be aware. If any of you have insight on whether this is in fact a scam, we would love to hear it!
