Who We Are:
Rachel Conly Design LLC is an award-winning, woman-owned residential design/build group specializing in high performance buildings in the Great Portland area. We create inspired spaces which are durable, efficient, healthy and comfortable, using thermal envelope and indoor air quality practices rooted in today’s building science standards.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are seeking an upbeat, collaborative person who has completed a 5-year architectural degree program, or has a master’s in architecture, and 5-10 years of experience. We are looking for someone who is passionate about design and the planet and is motivated to grow with our team.
What We Offer:
We’re a small, tight-knit team where you’ll have the opportunity to work day-to-day with the firm’s principal while also having the autonomy to lead projects on your own. We specialize in high performance, low carbon buildings at a residential scale, and you’ll be able to dive deep into building science. We’re committed to providing professional education, and you’ll have room to grow with increasing design and management responsibilities over time. As a design/build firm working at a local scale you’ll get to see the projects you’ve designed through construction.
Skills Needed:
• A 5 yr architectural degree, or master’s in architecture
• 5-10 years of experience practicing in the field of architecture
• Excellent design ability
• Enjoy people and working with clients
• Strong work ethic
• Comfortable sketching and hand drawing
• Comfortable with construction assemblies and details
• Comfortable working independently and in collaboration
• Proficiency in AutoCad, ArchiCAD, Microsoft Office (Enscape, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign a plus)
• Working knowledge of building and zoning codes
• Proven experience designing high performance and low carbon footprint buildings
• Keen interest in construction or design/build
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• A positive, roll up your sleeves and dive-in attitude
• A sense of humor
Responsibilities:
• Soup to nuts
• Existing conditions measuring and drawing
• Project feasibility analysis
• Work closely with principal on collaborative projects, as well as on independent projects, to produce and coordinate design and drawings from concept to permit, including thorough construction documents and details
• Coordinating finish selections, schedules and specifications
• Communicate and coordinate independently with clients, builders and technical team
• Communicate and coordinate independently with Building and Planning Departments
• Represent the design team at site meetings during construction
Contact and Details:
• Our office is based in Peaks Island, ME, a 15-minute ferry ride from downtown Portland. We offer the option of some remote work, however candidates need to be able to regularly travel to job sites in the greater Portland area.
• The compensation range for this position is $28-40/hour, based on experience and qualifications.
