In 2014 an outpouring of support from local producers, the Giles County Board of Supervisors, and the School Board cleared and fenced nearly 40 acres behind Giles High School. In January of 2015 heifers donated by local cattle producers and a borrowed bull were brought to the land lab. Students from GHS & NHS have aided in building the infrastructure of the lab. Cattle handling facilities, water t
roughs, fencing and two large high tunnel greenhouses have been designed and constructed by students from both high schools. Classes put to use knowledge learned in the classroom to work with hands on exercises. The Agriculture Land Lab's mission is classroom quality instruction in and about agriculture that utilizes a "learning by doing" philosophy while incorporating math, reading, social studies; and physical, chemical, and biological sciences in to each course.
