Jefferson fourth-grade students dove into an important lesson on food insecurity and how they can make a difference by supporting the Pella Food Shelf. As part of the experience, students decorated holiday bags to spread Christmas cheer to families receiving food assistance.

Classes then participated in a friendly coin-and-bill drive, turning generosity into a little healthy competition! 🎉 The winning homeroom was Mr. Treft’s class, who earned donuts donated by Levi Marx of Form and Function Carpentry.

Thanks to the hard work and big hearts of our fourth graders, $1,388.18 was raised to support Christmas meals for families in Marion County. This learning experience will continue in second semester when students visit the Pella Food Shelf to volunteer.

A huge thank you to Marion County Bank for accepting all the collected change, Culligan of Pella for providing the collection jugs, and Form and Function Carpentry for donating the donuts. We are so proud of our students for learning, giving, and serving our community!
