He carries the weight of love-the damage, the endurance, the fire that remains.
Structured in tighter planes, he stands grounded, holding it all just beneath the surface.

A quiet tension lives here-between what's felt and what's held back.

I forgot what it felt like to be seven years old on Christmas morning.

Last Thursday night, I remembered.
Five days ago, I opened the Award Alcove exhibit, SUSPENDED, at Artel Gallery. I thought I knew what to expect. I didn’t.

The feeling of that night stayed with me.
Something I couldn’t quite name.

This is Comare, a Wheaten Terrier. She was here most mornings, sitting at the window. No rush. Just watching the light change.

I saw this a hundred times. This is the first time I stayed with it long enough to paint it.

I first called it Morning Watch. But as Easter approached, the name no longer held the moment.

It became Vigil.

She’s been gone for a few years now. But the moment remains.
