We usually narrow Arizona patio structures down to three options: lattice aluminum, solid roof aluminum, or solid wood. The right choice mostly comes down to how much shade you want, how finished you want the space to feel, and how much you want to invest. Lattice is the simplest option for partial shade, while a solid aluminum roof gives you much better protection from sun and rain without jumping all the way to a custom wood build.

Solid wood is where the space starts feeling less like a patio cover and more like an outdoor room. Tongue-and-groove ceilings can hide recessed lighting, speaker wiring, fans, and other details that are harder to integrate into a basic structure. It costs more, but for homeowners who spend a lot of time outside, that extra finish can make a noticeable difference.

We would not automatically recommend the most expensive option. A patio structure should match how the backyard is actually going to be used.
