Believe it or not, this first picture is a before and after from the same exact location! 😱
This is the exit point of a dryer vent in a new construction home. The picture on the left shows the built-up lint on the screen, blocking air flow completely.
The picture on the right is what you SHOULD be able to see. I removed the screen completely to allow proper airflow, and thoroughly cleaned the vent. After discussing with the customer, we decided to keep the screen removed from the end of the vent. This was the best option in this case, but there are other types of screens/cages that can be installed that allow for better airflow.
Some professionals choose to “blow out” the dryer vent, which can completely block the screen as seen in the ‘before’ photo.
This is extremely common in new construction homes. If your dryer is taking longer to dry than usual or you are experiencing error codes, this may be why!
