I planted one of my GreenStalks completely with micro and mini tomatoes. It's working out amazingly. I have them on spinning bases, so I just stand still and spin the GreenStalk and pick from my giant tomato tree. The micro tomatoes are sturdy plants and vigorous producers, I was pleasantly surprised by that. They will now have a permanent spot in my GreenStalk planters. Love it!

The answer to Wednesdays, "What's That Flower?" is .........

Red Shrimp Plant ! aka Justicia brandegeana.

It's an ornamental evergreen shrub, known for its colorful flowers that resemble shrimp, hence its name. There are varieties available in shades of red (Justicia brandegeana), purple/pink (Justicia scheidweileri) or yellow/golden bronze (Pachystachys lutea).

The pollinators love this plant for its bright colorful long lasting blooms. It grows to about 3-5 feet tall and 2-4 feet wide. It's native to Mexico and Central America, and prefers zones 8-11. It is sensitive to frost and will die back, but should return in the spring. Prefers morning sun/partial shade, full sun will fade the blooms.

I didn’t want another plant to fuss over during our winter cold snaps, so I keep mine in half whiskey barrels, making it easy to move them into the greenhouse for the season. They bounce back and bloom so much earlier for me this way.

It's Wednesday, that means it's time for "What's That Flower?"

Every Wednesday, I’ll post “What’s That Flower?” It could be a real flower, a vegetable blossom, a fruit tree bloom, or even a plant that’s not currently blooming. We’ll see who can guess it, and maybe pick up some plant identification skills along the way. The correct answer will be revealed on Fridays.🌱🌺🌸🌼🌻🌱

The heat is on! June is the perfect time to plant heat loving vegetables in garden spots where milder weather plants have been cleared. Sweet potatoes, okra, and southern peas are always great picks. For a beautiful blooming plant that can be used to make tea and a tasty "cranberry like" sauce, consider growing Roselle. 🌺
