It’s a sea of color here at Cottage Gardens! 🌈

There’s no possible way to pick just a few highlights this week. Every single corner you turn is a new explosion of different blooms! Plants of all different shapes and sizes, whether sun or shade loving, high or low water needs, are all happily declaring summer is nearly here. ☀️

Our vegetable area is not just limited to veggies and herbs. Far from it - it also includes many edible blooms! 🌼

These culinary delights double as lovely ornamentals, and many are excellent for cut flowers as well. They’re easy-to-grow, don’t take up much space, and will fit right in with your veggie garden! Find established plants blooming amongst our on-site vegetable garden (at the bottom of the parking lot). Most of these little annuals are prolific bloomers and will continuously reseed, so you and the bees 🐝 can enjoy them in your garden almost year round! 💐

Use the petals for decorating baked goodies, mixing into salads for a pop of color, or drying to make your very own tea! Johnny Jump-Ups (Viola tricolor) and calendula add stunning color to any dish without affecting the flavor, borage blooms have the most refreshing cucumber taste (really!!), and, of course, chamomile makes the most calming tea. ☕️

Have you seen our brand new California Native Plants section?! 🎉☀️

California has remarkable biodiversity, hosting thousands of native plant species. Many are endemic - found nowhere else in the world, exclusively in this amazing area we are privileged to call home. Such plants are perfectly adapted to our weather patterns, including hot, direct sun and long, dry summers. Among natives, there’s a stunning range of color, texture, shape, size, and culinary use! 🧡

Find this area immediately to your right as you enter the nursery, where you’ll see two benches of California native plans and their close relatives, available in small 4” starts and larger one gallon pots as well.

Available are some well-known favorites, like the iconic California poppy and Santa Barbara daisy, along with many lesser known, but just as incredible, lovely locals! 🌼

We hope you’re as excited for this new area as we are! Come check it out - open everyday 9am-5pm.

Happy Sunflower Saturday! 🌼🧡

The self-seeded volunteer sunflowers in our pollinator garden are starting to bloom! 🎉 And the huge sunflower field out by the parking lot is quickly filling in with all the seedlings popping up.

It’s not too late to plant sunflowers in your own garden! With the long, warm, sunny days we’ve been having here in Sonoma County, these guys will grow extremely fast. We have many lovely sunflower varieties available at the nursery for you (plus lots of other summer bloomers!) in all sorts of colors 💛🧡💜

Heuchera’s are the highlight! 🧡❤️💚

These stunning shade-loving perennials boast perhaps the widest range of stunning colors out of all the plants we have here at the nursery! The low-growing, lush foliage comes in rich green, bright yellow, deep red and more! Some are even multicolor with sensational venation.
Clusters of sweet little blooms rise above the foliage on branching stems, beginning in spring and continuing all the way through summer!

Hydrangeas are here! 🎉
And they’re already putting on a show!

Dozens of varieties now fill the terrace at the top of the nursery. These lovely shrubs boast puffs, panicles, and mops of blooms all summer. Colors range from elegant white to excitable pink and pastel purple, plus everything in between! Even if you’re not in the market for a hydrangea in your garden, we invite you to come walk through the cool, shady terrace and enjoy these beauties for yourself 💖
