🌹 A Springtime Proclamation

from
E. D. Wilson Roses, Oddities & Amazing Things 🌹

In the Manner of the Bard of Avon

O hark! Ye gentle keepers of the rose,

The vernal trumpet sounds—our season grows.
From winter’s slumber stirs each thornéd queen,
Her buds once bare now blushing soft and green.

Yet mark me well: where tender shoots arise,
There creeps a foe with many thousand eyes.
The aphid—villain small, yet legion-born—
Doth hatch its brood ere breaks the rosy morn.

A single dame, with mischief in her womb,
Can spawn a hundred heirs before the noon;
And thus a bud, so chaste at break of day,
By eventide is swarmed in green array.

But fear not, friends! For nature’s knights draw near—
The ladybug, in armor bright and clear,
And mantis, monk-like in his patient stance,
Both sworn to keep your gardens in romance.

These noble hunters, guardians of the bloom,
Feast not on petals, but on creeping doom.
They smite the pest, its eggs, its hidden kin,
And cleanse the rose of all that crawls within.

Now hear my call: the hour wanes full fast.
This week alone these champions may ye cast
Into your plots, to serve ’til summer’s reign—
Fresh from my hand, not languished on the plain.

Should none lay claim by Sunday’s rising sun,
I shall release them all—each valiant one—
To roam my fields in merry, watchful bands,
And lend their strength unto my thriving lands.

Yet purchase now, and I shall set aside
Thy chosen host, reserved with gentle pride,
’Til thou dost come, at ten of morning’s chime,
To fetch the troops that guard thy blooms in time.

So step ye forth, good stewards of the leaf,
And let these tiny warriors bring relief.
For though my farm hath many helpers sure,
In spring’s great battle—aye—there’s room for more.

🌹 E.D. Wilson Roses, Oddities & Amazing Things — Newsletter Update

A Successful First Day of Preorder Pickups

Our first pickup day went beautifully. The skies looked dramatic and threatened rain, but aside from a few harmless sprinkles, the weather held until exactly 4 p.m.—the moment I closed the farm stand. Perfect timing. Everyone arrived in good spirits, and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces collecting their roses.

I also brought back some of the vibrant annual color I used to offer at the nursery, and it was a hit. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and made the day such a success.

Ladybugs & Praying Mantis — Still Available for a Limited Time

I ordered a few extra containers of ladybugs and praying mantis so that those who missed the preorder window could still pick some up. There are still a few left, so if you’d like to add beneficial insects to your garden, now is the time.

You can order online and pick up within the next two weeks. After that, any remaining insects will be released into the rose field to support the health of our little farm. I won’t be ordering more this year.

🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞

Website Update — No More Preorder Requirement

The website has now been updated so you can purchase roses and other items just as before—no preorder needed.

When you place an order, an appointment time will be automatically assigned. If the default time doesn’t work for you, simply email me at [email protected] and I’ll happily adjust your appointment.

🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎

Compost Tea — I Need Your Input

Many of you expressed interest in compost tea for roses and ornamental plants. Thank you for your enthusiasm—it helps me plan production.

Here’s what I need from you now:
How much compost tea would you be interested in purchasing?

I currently produce 20 gallons per batch, but I can either:

Invest in additional drums to increase production, or

Spread pickup appointments across the month on designated pickup days.

Your feedback will help determine the best approach.

Compost Tea Pricing & Containers

Here’s what I can confirm so far:

$22.50 for five gallons of compost tea
(or $5 per gallon when < 5-gallons)

Containers:

You’re welcome to bring your own clean, leak‑free container(s).

If you prefer to buy one from me, I have BPA‑free, food‑grade containers for $39.

Using your own jugs:
I’m happy to fill five 1‑gallon water jugs that you provide.
(Standard drinking‑water jugs with lids work great.)
Total for five gallons: $22.50

Once I know how much interest there is, I’ll finalize production and schedule pickup times.

If you missed the preorder, here is your last chance for this season's discount)

Thank You for Supporting Our Little Farm

Your enthusiasm, patience, and continued support mean the world. This season is shaping up to be something special, and I’m grateful to share it with all of you.

If you have questions, need to adjust an appointment, or want to reserve compost tea, just send me an email anytime.

Warmly,
Eugene Rougeau

“One Ringy‑Dingy… A Farm Stand Update”

One ringy‑dingy…

Two ringy‑dingies…
Is this the party responsible for roses, ladybugs,
and general horticultural hullabaloo?
Good. I have a message for you.

This is Eugene, your friendly neighborhood operator,
patching you through with the latest farm‑stand news—
because someone has to keep this place connected,
and apparently, it’s me.

First off, the preorder pickups went off without a hitch.
The clouds tried to cause trouble—
oh yes, they puffed themselves up like they owned the sky—
but not a drop fell until 4 p.m. sharp.
That’s what we in the business call
“divine scheduling.”

Now, about those ladybugs and praying mantis…
We still have a few left,
so if your roses are screaming
“Send reinforcements!”
you can still order online.
But don’t dawdle—
after two weeks they’ll be released into the field
to live their best little bug lives.

And listen closely, because this is important:
The website has been updated.
No more preorder rigamarole.
You can shop like the good old days.
An appointment will pop up automatically—
and if it doesn’t suit your fancy,
just email me at [email protected]
and I’ll switch it faster than I can say
“Have I reached the party to whom I am speaking?”

Now, about this compost tea situation…
Everyone wants some.
Everyone.
But I can only brew 20 gallons at a time,
and even I can’t connect
to a bigger drum without proper authorization.
So I need to know:
How much do you want?
Five gallons? Ten? Enough to bathe in?
(We do not recommend that.)

Pricing is simple:
$25 for five gallons,
plus the cost of a container
unless you bring your own
non‑leaky, non‑exploding,
transport‑worthy vessel.
I’ll even fill five 1‑gallon jugs
if that tickles your efficiency bone.

So that’s the news from the switchboard.
Thank you for supporting
E.D. Wilson Roses, Oddities & Amazing Things—
where the roses are lovely,
the bugs are beneficial,
and the operator is always listening…
whether you like it or not.

Snort.

Hello my little rose‑worshipping love muffins!

It could happen — and it IS happening —
rose pickup begins February 24th from 10am to 4pm!
Yes, that’s right, the gates of DEW Gardens will open
like a glamorous floral temple,
and I, your humble horticultural Love Goddess,
will be waiting to bless you with beauty.

Now listen, my darlings.
Appointments are the official way to pick up your roses.
Very organized. Very respectable.
Very “I pay my taxes and label my storage bins.”
And those with appointments will get first service —
because I’m not a monster.

BUT…
if you’re one of my delicious little wanderers,
one of those free‑range, untamed spirits
who just wants to pop in and see what’s new —
you CAN.
Yes, you heard me.
You can sashay into the farm stand
without an appointment
and I will still adore you.

I’ll be there until 4pm anyway,
flouncing around among the roses,
talking to the plants,
and trying not to eat all the snacks I brought for myself.
So if you want to stop by,
buy a few things,
or just let me gaze upon your beautiful face
that I haven’t seen in ages —
come on over!

Just remember:
appointments get first service,
but drop‑ins get my spontaneous,
unfiltered, Eugene‑level affection.
And trust me, that’s worth the trip.

So polish your halos,
fluff your petals,
and come see me on the 24th.
Your garden wants you.
I want you.
And the roses?
They’re practically screaming your name.

When Poetry Speaks

Well hello, my dears—

pull up a chair, or a potting bench,
or whatever’s closest that doesn’t have thorns.
I’ve got news, and like most good news,
it comes with a little wink from the universe.

First things first—
DEW Gardens is taking a tiny breather this week.
Yes, even gardens need a moment to collect themselves,
smooth their leaves,
and practice deep, chlorophyll-rich breathing.
We’ll reopen on Tuesday, February 24th
for preorder pickup appointments—
because roses, like people, appreciate punctuality.

Now, about those roses.
You know, folks always say
you can buy a rose anywhere.
And that’s true—
if you want a rose that’s been
boxed, bounced, and bewildered
by the time it reaches your doorstep.
But here?
Here you come to my home,
my farm, my slightly eccentric sanctuary
of David Austin, Weeks, and Star beauties
who’ve grown up knowing
they’re destined for greatness.

And when you come here—
you don’t just get a rose.
You get a community moment.
You get Sonoma County air in your lungs,
a chance to grab lunch down the road,
visit a friend,
or indulge in a Slurpee
because life is short
and frozen sugar is eternal.

And because I believe
that generosity grows roots
just as surely as roses do—
I’m giving away
one Xtreme Mykos pellet planting pack
with every rose preorder or purchase.
Yes, really.
They’re here, they’re ready,
and they’re yours for the asking.
They may be small,
but they’re mighty—
like most of the best things in life.

So when we reopen,
come pick up your roses,
wander the oddities,
and enjoy the amazing things.
Let’s keep nurturing beauty,
one visit, one rose,
one shared moment in our community.

Because some people take the fun out of life...

Ready to Join the Compost Tea Program?

Here we are — week four of the Compost Tea Chronicles.

You now know:

• Why compost tea matters

• What’s in my brew

• How it benefits roses

Now let’s talk about how you can get it.

🌿 The Subscription Program

I’ll be offering the tea in:

• 1 gallon containers

• 5 gallon containers

It takes 24 hours to brew, and I’ll be producing it in small batches to ensure freshness and microbial activity.

💻 Website Access

I’m planning to build a subscription portal on the website, but only if enough people want it. Programming takes time, and I’d rather invest that time wisely.

So if you’re interested — even tentatively — email me. No commitment. Just a raised hand.

[email protected]

If there isn’t enough interest, I’ll keep brewing the tea for my own roses here at the farm, and you’re welcome to make your own version at home. All of the ingredients are available on my website.

But if you do want it… I’d love to share this with you.

🌊 “Sign Up, Ride the Wave”

Duuude,

the brew is fresh,
the microbes are vibin’,
the buckets are lined up
like surfboards at dawn.

You can snag a gallon,
or go big with five —
either way, your roses
are gonna feel so alive.

It’s a monthly wave, man,
a cycle, a rhythm,
like tides, like seasons,
like the universe whisperin’,
“Feed your soil, bro.”

So if you wanna ride this compost tea journey,
shoot me an email, catch the swell…
’Cause this wave’s leavin’ the shore soon, dude,
and your roses wanna surf it as well.

“Stay Stoked, Stay Rooted”

Much love for supportin’ my small but mighty farm, fam. You keep the roots strong, the petals bright, and this whole operation totally stoked.

🌹 “It Just Goes to Show Ya…”

You know,

it’s funny…
I was just minding my own business,
trying to get ready for preorder pickup day,
when suddenly I realized—
EVERYBODY is out there buying bare‑root roses
like it’s some kind of botanical Black Friday.

And I thought,
“Not me, honey!”
Because I planted every single rose myself,
trimmed ’em, groomed ’em,
told ’em they were pretty—
and now they’re sprouting like teenagers
who just discovered hair gel.

But then my cousin Sylvia says,
“Eugene, why aren’t you selling bare‑root roses like the other places?”
And I said,
“Sylvia, have you SEEN those tiny pots?
Those roses are living in studio apartments!
Mine are in 5‑gallon luxury condos
with soil so good it should come with a doorman.”

And just when I’m feeling proud,
someone reminds me,
“Hey, preorder’s closing soon!”
And I’m thinking—
of course it is!
Everything closes eventually!
The farm stand’s closing next week,
my patience closes every time someone asks
if ladybugs bite,
and beneficial insect preorders close
February 14 at noon
because even bugs need boundaries.

But don’t worry—
on February 24th,
I’ll fling open the gates like a floral game show host
and hand you your roses, your ladybugs,
your praying mantises—
all smiling, all ready,
all saying,
“Thank you for not making us live in those tiny pots.”

So what’s the moral of the story?

If it’s February,
and your roses are happy,
and your bugs are on the way,
and you remembered your pickup day…
well, it just goes to show ya—
spring is coming whether you’re ready or not.

Happy Valentine's Day, Everybody!

Well, it just goes to show ya…

you think you’re just minding your own business,
tryin’ to pick up a few roses for Valentine’s Day,
and suddenly you’re learnin’ about ladybugs,
prayin’ mantises,
and why your roses need a five‑gallon condo
instead of a tiny little shoebox apartment.

But that’s life.
It’s always somethin’.
One minute you’re lookin’ for romance,
the next minute you’re elbow‑deep in potting soil
wonderin’ if your beneficial insects
are gonna judge your pruning technique.

Anyway—
have a happy Valentine’s Day,
get your preorders in before they slam shut,
and remember:
whether it’s love, roses, or bugs…
you never know what’s gonna crawl into your life next.

Yours truly,
Eugene 🌹🐉

12/02/2026

Hello Garden Friends,

(Final order window closing on 2/14 noon)

I hope your week is off to a beautiful start. As we move closer to spring, I wanted to share an important update about this year’s beneficial insect preorder window.

Every season, I place one coordinated bulk order for beneficial insects. This ensures that all of you receive fresh, viable, recently harvested ladybugs and praying mantis egg cases — not old stock that has been sitting on a shelf. It also allows me to offer these helpers without charging shipping, which can be quite expensive when ordering individually.

🐞 A Note About Minimums

For retail containers (the small, garden‑ready packages you’re used to), my supplier requires a minimum number of confirmed orders before they will ship. I will be placing a bulk order for nursery use regardless, but retail containers are a separate category and must meet that minimum.

If we don’t reach the required number of retail preorders:

🐞I won’t be able to bring in retail containers for the shop this year

🐞Customers will need to order directly from the supplier (shipping applies)

🐞Or purchase from other companies, where product freshness and viability can vary widely

I want to avoid that outcome if possible, because early‑season beneficial insects are one of the most effective, sustainable tools you can use — and I want you to have access to the best quality available.

🌱 Your Preorder Must Be Completed Online

A quick but important clarification:

Telling me you want some is not the same as placing an order.
To be included in the retail shipment, your order must be:

🌟Placed through the website

🌟Fully confirmed at checkout

This is the only way I can count your order toward the supplier’s minimum.

If you’ve been planning to order but haven’t completed the online checkout yet, now is the perfect time.

🐞 Why Early Release Still Matters

Even though the garden looks quiet, pest eggs are already present. Early release of ladybugs and mantises:

🎯Targets pests before they hatch

🎯Protects tender new growth

🎯Reduces the need for sprays later

Helps your garden start the season balanced and healthy

A little preparation now saves a lot of trouble later.

📅 Pickup Window Reminder

February 22 – March 7, 2026

If you already have a rose order on file:

🐉No new appointment needed

🐉I will combine your pickups automatically

🐉You’ll receive priority fulfillment

Orders not picked up by March 7th will be released so the insects can be used at the correct time.

🌸 If You Plan to Use Beneficial Insects This Year…

Please take a moment to place your preorder online. It ensures:

🐝You’re counted toward the retail minimum

🐝You receive fresh, high‑quality beneficial insects

🐝You avoid shipping costs

🐝You’re ready for early‑season pest prevention

Your garden will thank you when spring arrives.

With a pocket full of ladybugs and a garden full of dreams,

🌿 A Gilda‑Style Garden Poem

(full of charm, a little neurotic, and very Gilda)

Well,
I tried to keep things simple —
which, for me, is already complicated.
I thought,
“Beneficial insects!
Everyone loves beneficial insects!
They’re cute, they’re helpful,
they don’t talk back.”

But then I realized something.
People think ordering ladybugs
is like ordering a latte.
You just shout,
“I want some!”
and magically they appear.

No, no, no.
These are living creatures,
not foam art.

So now I’m explaining —
very calmly,
in the way a person explains things
while internally screaming —
that you can’t just tell me you want ladybugs.
You have to actually
place the order
online
and confirm it
like a responsible adult
who wants tiny red garden warriors
to show up on time.

And then there’s the minimum order.
Oh, the minimum order.
Apparently, my supplier
does not care
that I am a small business
with big dreams
and a mild vitamin‑D deficiency.
They want numbers.
Retail numbers.
“Minimums,” they say.
Like it’s a diet.

Meanwhile, I’m over here
ordering bulk for the nursery
because I will use them,
but retail containers?
Those are a whole different universe.
A universe where
if we don’t hit the magic number,
p**f —
no retail shipment.

And then you, dear gardener,
will have to order directly
from the supplier
and pay shipping,
which is basically
the price of a small pony.

Or worse —
you’ll buy from some random company
where the ladybugs
have been sitting on a shelf
longer than my New Year’s resolutions.

So I’m saying this with love,
with warmth,
with the enthusiasm of a woman
holding a praying mantis egg case
like it’s a Fabergé egg:

If you want your garden helpers,
please,
for the love of roses,
place your order online.
Click the button.
Confirm the thing.
Do the dance.

Because spring is coming,
the pests are plotting,
and I would really like
to hand you a container
of fresh, lively,
ready‑to‑work ladybugs
instead of a pamphlet titled
“So You Missed the Deadline.”

Thank you.
I love you.
Now go order your bugs
before I start releasing them
into the wild
just to cope.

Why Roses Respond So Well to Compost Tea

Now that you know what’s in the brew, let’s talk about what it actually does.

Compost tea isn’t fertilizer. It’s not a tonic. It’s not a quick fix. It’s biology — and biology is what roses have been missing.

🌿 1. It Rebuilds Soil Life

Healthy soil isn’t dirt — it’s a living ecosystem. Compost tea introduces beneficial microbes that:

🌿 Colonize the root zone

🌿 Out compete harmful pathogens

🌿 Break down nutrients into plant available forms

🌿 Improve soil structure and aeration

🌱 2. It Improves Nutrient Uptake

Humic and fulvic acids act like natural chelators, helping roses absorb minerals more efficiently. This means your regular fertilizer works better.

You can buy humic acid separately as a stand alone product, or apply compost tea

🌾 3. It Enhances Root Development

Seaweed hormones + microbial activity = stronger, deeper, more resilient roots.

🌸 4. It Boosts Bloom Production

Healthier roots and improved nutrient cycling lead to more blooms, better color, and stronger stems.

🛡️ 5. It Increases Stress Resistance

Plants with strong microbial partnerships handle:

• Heat

• Drought

• Transplant shock

• Disease pressure

…far better than plants grown in sterile or depleted soil.

🌾 When planting: Mykos WP

For gardens with tired, compacted, or neglected soil, Mykos WP helps re-inoculate the root zone with beneficial fungi that extend the root system and improve nutrient uptake. Apply once, then the compost tea will sustain the benefits.

Next week, we’ll wrap up with how the subscription works and how you can get in early.

🏄‍♂️ “Brewed to Shred: A Rose‑Lover’s Surf Chant”

Brooo,

grab your board and follow me,
we’re droppin’ in on compost tea.
It’s not some sketchy plant caffeine —
it’s microbes ridin’ clean and green.

They paddle in, a stoked-up crew,
like, “Yo, pathogens — we’re replacin’ you.”
They break down food, they fluff the ground,
they turn your soil right-side ’round.

Then humic acids roll on through,
like mineral Uber drivers, dude.
They chelate stuff, they make it glide,
so roses slurp those nutrients with pride.

Seaweed hormones whisper low,
“Dig deep, my dude… now go, go, go.”
Roots bulk up like they hit the gym,
get thick, get strong, get rose‑buffed trim.

And blooms?
Oh man, they start to pop —
like fireworks that just won’t stop.
Colors blastin’, stems all swole,
your garden’s on a cosmic roll.

Heat waves hit? Your roses chill.
Drought rolls in? They’re steady still.
Microbe bros don’t let ’em crack —
they’ve always got your roses’ back.

And if your soil’s tired, beat, or dry,
Mykos WP swings by like, “Hi.”
Fungal lifeguards on patrol,
extendin’ roots like rock ’n’ roll.

So sip your brew and let it be —
your roses surf biology.
’Cause compost tea’s the gnarly wave
that turns your yard into a botanic rave.

“Local Legend Love”

Seriously, bros and bro-ettes, thanks for showin’ love to my little farm. You’re the reason the blooms keep poppin’ and the good energy keeps flowin’.

The Big Kahuna,
Eugene

Dear Friends,

As we look ahead to the start of open season here at

E D Wilson Roses, Oddities & Amazing Things,
I’m excited to share that our beloved Crystal Rainbow Makers and Crystal Angels are available once again. Many of you have asked about them, and I’m delighted to bring these beautiful pieces back for easy gift‑giving.

Each crystal creation is handcrafted with genuine Austrian crystals and assembled with care on durable, nylon‑coated wire. They’re made in the United Kingdom, and every piece has its own unique character. Regularly Priced at $12.50, On sale at $10

These make wonderful gifts for Valentine’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings, or simply as a thoughtful surprise for someone who “has everything.” They’re uplifting, elegant, and endlessly charming — a small piece of magic that brightens any room.

On sale from $19.50 to $42.50

While open season is just around the corner, we’re still experiencing some unpredictable weather. If you plan to visit the farm stand, please call ahead to make sure we’re open. When weather permits, our hours are 10am to 4pm on Friday and Saturday.

A Syrupy Poem for Crystal Lovers

Oh, let your heart be lifted, dear friend of mine,

By treasures that shimmer, sparkle, and shine—
For once again the crystals gleam,
Like tiny sunbeams caught in a dream.

Handcrafted wonders from lands afar,
Each one glowing like a fallen star.
Austrian crystals, pure and bright,
Born to scatter ribbons of light.

Made with care in the Kingdom fair,
Where artisans breathe magic into air,
They hang in windows, soft and still,
Until the sun awakens them at will.

Then—oh then!—the colors rise,
Dancing gently before your eyes,
Rainbows swirling across the room,
Chasing shadows, lifting gloom.

What sweeter gift could one bestow
On those we cherish, love, and know?
For Valentine’s Day or any hour,
These crystals bloom like radiant flowers.

And though the season soon draws near,
The weather still misbehaves, I fear.
So before you wander to the farm stand gate,
Please call ahead—don’t tempt your fate.

When open, we welcome you with cheer,
From ten to four on days most clear.

Inside the Brew — The Ingredients That Make It Work

Welcome back to week two of the Compost Tea Chronicles. Today we’re diving into the ingredients — not the ratios (that’s my secret), but the components themselves and why they matter.

This isn’t a random mix. Every ingredient has a purpose, and every purpose supports roses in a way traditional fertilizers simply can’t.

💧 Well Water

A clean, mineral balanced base. No chlorine. No chemical treatment. Microbes thrive in natural water, and well water gives them a stable environment to multiply.

🐟 Neptune’s Harvest Fish Emulsion (Rose & Flowering)

This is your nitrogen source — but it’s more than that. It provides:

• Amino acids

• Trace minerals

• Bloom supporting nutrients

• Organic compounds that feed both the plant and the microbes

🌊 GrowMore Seaweed Extract

Seaweed is one of the most underrated plant boosters on earth. It contains:

• Micronutrients roses often lack

• Natural plant hormones (cytokinins, auxins, gibberellins)

• Compounds that improve stress tolerance, root development, and overall vigor

🧫 Microbe Hydroponics Microbe Life Premium PlusC

This is where the microbial diversity comes from. It introduces beneficial bacteria that:

• Break down nutrients

• Out compete harmful microbes

• Support disease resistance

• Build a living soil ecosystem

(Currently Out-Of-Stock, but expecting any day!)

🍯 Molasses

Think of molasses as the buffet that fuels the microbial explosion during brewing. It provides simple sugars that beneficial microbes use as an energy source.

(This you get at the grocery store)

🌱 Compost — The Heart of the Tea

This is the “essence” of the brew. Compost provides:

• Beneficial microorganisms

• Humic and fulvic acids

• Organic matter

• Natural chelators

• A balanced inoculum that turns the tea into a living biological system

Without compost, you don’t have compost tea. You have flavored water.

🌊 “Brewin’ the Good Stuff, Man”

Duuude,

I tossed some compost in a bucket,
gave it a swirl like a tidal spin,
added fish juice, seaweed, molasses —
bro, that’s when the magic kicked in.

The microbes started partyin’,
like a beach bonfire at midnight,
Plus C brought the whole crew over,
and the well water kept it just right.

It’s like… every ingredient’s a homie,
each one bringin’ its own good vibe,
and when they all jam together, man,
your roses feel that microbial tribe.

So yeah, I brew it for 24 hours,
let the bubbles dance and play…
It’s not just tea, it’s a lifestyle, dude,
a soil lovin’, root boostin’ way.

“Farm Vibes Only”

Big thanks for stickin’ with my tiny patch of paradise, friends.

Your good vibes keep the soil hummin’ and the roses stoked.

The Big Kahuna,
Eugene
