Fall has finally arrived! We are starting our 5th and final round for the season – a winterizer fertilizer. Weather permitting, all accounts will be fertilized by mid – November.
Here are some important and simple bullet points:
+ After we fertilize - feel free to water, cut, or rake the leaves. The fertilizer will not be affected by any of these activities.
+ When we fertilize this fall, some leaves will be down. No worries. The fertilizer will bounce off the leaves and end up in the turf. If not, when the wind blows or you cut the grass or you clean up leaves, the fertilizer will end up in the turf. No worries. Your mower does not have the vacuum strength to pick up fertilizer prills.
+ You do not have to cut your grass shorter in the fall. Cutting the grass super short will cut off the crown of the plant. The crown is where the plant is storing energy to get through the winter to get a healthy start in the spring. For the health of your lawn, PLEASE do not cut it shorter than 3”.
+ PLEASE REMEMBER – if you have intentions of doing any re-seeding next spring, know that the first application is our crab grass control. It does not differentiate between crab grass and newly planted grass seed. Please communicate with us for the timing of your planting so we do not wipe out your efforts. Feel free to spot seed any bare areas NOW. This is the perfect time for seed to grow! Do not be concerned about the air temperature, the ground temperature is what matters. There is a lot of time for grass to germinate and mature to make it through the winter months. It will continue to grow early spring. You will want to keep the newly seeded areas moist.
Thank you for a wonderful 2025 season. There were some challenges with fungus and w**ds, but we can’t control Mother Nature. We just do the best we can to work with her.
