10 years ago I made my very first soap. This was my setup and my equipment. I made it in my basement. It was just for personal use and to see if I liked making it. I made the soap using the hot process method, which you use a crock pot to cook the soap, and then you can use it right away after it hardens in the mold. I used spirulina powder to color the top part green. I used Phenolphthalein Drops to check and make sure there was no more lye in the soap. When you put the drops in the soap, and it turned pink, it meant there was still lye in the soap and you had to keep cooking it. It was either that or the zap method on your tongue that I had read most soapers did at the time and I was not excited to do that lol. I made hot process soap for friends and family for a few months and then decided to try my hand at cold process soap, and I never looked back. I fell in love with cold process. Hot process soap made in the crock pot has the consistency of mashed potatoes, so you can't get intricate designs like you can with cold process soap. And of course, cold process soap must cure a minimum of 4 weeks before you can use it. When I was in my basement making this soap 10 years ago, I never fathomed that I'd be making soaps for a living - especially ones that people would want to display in their home. I remember being so proud of that ugly green and beige soap lol. It lathered really well and smelled good and at that moment in time I thought it was beautiful. What a journey it has been.

For the record, there’s nothing wrong at all with making plain soaps. I make them too. But the more complicated ones are just a lot of fun to make, and they are what my customers prefer most of the time.

Getting a little rain today …. Inside and outside 😳. I did close the overhead garage door but it’s still coming in underneath. And it’s leaking inside my room and drenched my microwave.
