🌅 Before the desert wakes up...

There’s something special about getting outside early with a fresh panel and a cup of coffee before the day gets moving. This morning’s study wasn’t about painting a specific place—it was about chasing color. Soft violets, cool blues, warm pinks, and those fleeting cloud shapes that seem to change every thirty seconds.

These small studies are where I get to experiment, simplify, and enjoy the process without overthinking. Sometimes the best part is realizing the sky has already changed by the time you mix the right color.

Anyone else a fan of sunrise colors, or are you more of a sunset person?

Some subjects never lose their pull. The relationship between horse and rider remains one of the defining images of the American West—built on trust, hard work, and a deep connection to the land.

In this piece, I focused on simplifying the composition into bold shapes and color relationships, allowing the rider and horse to emerge from the landscape while remaining part of it. The result is a study of both figure and place, rooted in the spirit of the Southwest.

These pieces began as small studies focused on capturing the fleeting light, shifting clouds, and immense atmosphere of the Grand Canyon. Alongside these studies, several larger studio works are also available.
