Behind the Scenes: When I designed RoyalePhx I wanted it to reflect the Mid Century Modern history and aesthetic so prevalent in the Melrose Mile ….

As part of that I created some small nods to historic buildings in the neighborhood and one of those nods was to the Paris Laundry and Dry Cleaning building (that’s now home to the wonderful Valentine and fabulous Modern Manor).

The blue color chosen for The Royale was picked as it was similar to the old Paris blue and was a fun way I could reference the neighborhood that’s inspired so much of The Royale 😁

NEW project photos from another Rocco Designs PHX Home renovation and interior design project…. Check out these after and before photos of this Mid Century Era ranch redo.

The design concept is 1970s glam meets beautiful contemporary and was inspired by 1970s lamps my client collected (incorporated into this design)…. Walls were removed, brick was exposed, and the space was reconfigured to maximize efficiency and flow.

This renovation is all about celebrating glam over the top moments, balancing smooth and colder textures with warm, balancing contemporary w vintage, and ultimately creating a space that has a chill and fun 60’s/70’s vibe.

SO excited to share photos of a Rocco Designs PHX high rise condo renovation inside of a Mid Century Modern (MCM) building (Regency On Central). Renovation photos first then before photos

This was a true collaboration with my client Ashley Harder. The design concept is MCM meets sleek contemporary. The condo was purchased with the intent of renovating…. There was A LOT of crazy things to fix from a design/aesthetic standpoint as well as from a functional and safety standpoint.

This condo renovation is all about the small details, the textures, the warm and cool tones balancing each other, and of course the MCM moments, some of which mimic architectural elements ya of the iconic MCM building this swanky condo sits inside of.

I’ve posted this home before but it’s so fabulous it bears re-posting…. I grew up w this home I the neighborhood I grew up in…. We all referred to it as the “Mushroom House” but structurally it was modeled after Queen Anne’s Lace (u can see that internally in the pics)….

This was the first building that I had access to that showed me that whimsy and magic can exist in the often rigid world of architecture and that with enough imagination you could do anything.

So excited! My FAVORITE Day - Demolition day - is fast approaching this little gem in the Coronado Neighborhood…. It’s getting a Rocco Designs FULL makeover!

Full gut and renovation of the interior, adding on about 1,000 sq ft, new interior design and furniture, new exterior, new landscape design…. Will be a 4 bedroom 3 full bath home when completed.

"I Can't Breathe 2020" (my new piece - please read description below as it's important to understand this work of art fully).

ARTIST DESCRIPTION (it's long for social media but important to read) :

This work encapsulates a moment in time in America, specifically the Black Lives Matter Protests in 2020 during COVID-19 and quarantine. This wall sculpture shows the terrible gamble (a deadly "raffle") that Black Americans are forced into every day. Each ticket represents a moment when a life has been senselessly taken... The moment that a deadly raffle ticket was drawn.

Paper was used to represent the fragility of life and how easily it can be taken away. The sculpture is meant to respectfully honor those countless lives lost and act as a way to continue the important conversations and actions against racism, police brutality, and violence against Black and Brown communities. Just as these raffle tickets are woven together to create this facemask, we're all woven together as a larger community, and when one part of our community is suffering we all suffer.

Racism affects us all and I believe that as a White Artist and ally I can use my art and my platform to help continue the extremely important work and conversations around this issue.

I recently consulted on a Home Flip for the first time in my 20+ year career as an Architect. Here are the befores and afters of the project... It was a blast! 😀

The home value went up 43% above the initial appraisal value due to this renovation. It's already sold.

It was a mix of spending in the right places, being creative with the design to create some uniqueness to this home, creating a design that has wide appeal to attract more buyers, and sticking to a very tight budget in order to make the all the final numbers make sense for the flip itself... 😀🌈
