A wilted plant doesn't always mean it needs water.

Before you reach for the hose, check the soil. During hot weather, plants often wilt in the heat of the day as a way to conserve moisture and then perk back up once temperatures cool down.

It's tempting to water every wilted plant you see, but overwatering can create problems too.

Getting in the habit of checking the soil first is one of the best things you can do for your garden during the summer.

Comment GUIDE for my watering guide and learn how to tell when plants really need water, what wilting means, and how to water wisely during hot weather.

What a year for tomatoes.

These three Roma tomato plants produced more than I ever expected. The plants are tired now and have just about finished up, so I’m taking them out and giving the other crops in this bed, like watermelon, room to grow.

How are the tomatoes doing in your garden right now?

The seasons are changing, and that means the flowers I’m growing are changing too.

The campanula I started from seed last summer and planted out in the fall has given me buckets of beautiful blooms, but it’s finishing up as the weather gets hotter.

The zinnias, though? They love the heat and are just getting started.

Getting the timing right for flowers can be tricky, especially in a hot climate. My flower guide makes it simple so you know when to start seeds indoors, when to plant outside, and what to plant next.
