Painting DIY or HIRE ??? PAINTING is one of the best investments you can make on your home. It’s amazing what a simple coat of paint can do to bring freshness to a house, both inside and out. Painting does take time, effort and money, though. So, here are some tips to get the best out of your painting job with THIRD ROCK HOME IMPROVEMENTS & PAINTING
EXTERIOR painting
A fresh coat of exterior paint can take decades off the look of a house and vastly improves curb appeal — an easy way to snag a higher selling price. However, this is one job where it pays to hire an expert, especially if you’re looking to sell in the near future. Painting an entire exterior is LABOR-INTENSIVE, and professionals typically bring in a team to get it done efficiently. If you do DIY, expect a project that will take multiple weekends.

One of the most important pieces of exterior painting is the PREP work. Unlike interior rooms, where you can paint right over existing colors, existing exterior paint often needs to be scraped and sanded. This will ensure that the exterior paint will last for years to come, and is often why people prefer to hire an expert rather than doing it themselves.

Keep the color scheme simple, neutral and in keeping with your neighborhood. Be sure to use specially-formulated exterior paint, not interior paint. Exterior paint is more expensive, ranging from $40 – $70 a gallon, and you’ll need more than you think, so calculate square footage before you head to the paint store.

Don’t forget about trim and doors, too. Newly painted siding can make trim that initially looked fine suddenly seem faded and old. The door is one place for a splash of color that buyers love: red, yellow, blue or green are all eye-catching options for front doors.

HOW TO HELP YOUR HOME SELL...by Natalie Wise When it comes to selling your house, it’s a lot easier to catch the big repairs than to see the small details. But buyers notice it all, and even one squeaky door can signal issues to them. Here are a few last-minute, easy tweaks that make a big difference.

Clean/Replace Blinds ($5-15):
Dirty blinds are an eyesore, and you can easily clean them with a damp cloth. Broken blinds are easy to replace, and make a huge visual difference. Even knotted-up strings, missing wands and crooked hardware can turn off potential buyers. EASY to run by your local hardware store and grabbing some replacement blinds.

Squeaky Doors and Drawers ($7):Buyers will cringe at the sound of a squeaky door or drawer.Grab a $7 can of silicone spray from your local hardware store, and spray down all door hinges and drawer track

Make Sure All Lightbulbs Work ($5-20)

Freshen the Air ($5-7): A quick odor-eliminating spray (an unscented spray that eliminates odors) around the house can keep odors at bay. Candles or any scented spray can set off allergies and only mask odors instead of eliminating them

Check the Front Door ($10-40):Most of us don’t use our front doors on a regular basis, so it can become an overlooked area. Make sure the surrounding area is swept and the doorbell works. A new, plain doormat or shiny door knocker can make a nice first impression for buyers. Clean the mailbox, too — it’s often caked in grime and spider-webs.
