Could you guess, the Maryland State crustacean is the blue crab?

I originally made this ornamental oval using dyed blue veneer for the crab, but decided against to use holly instead. I wanted a more traditional look.

If I’ve learned anything about Maryland over the past 20 years, Marylanders love their flag. I made this pull-out cocktail tray using dyed wood veneers.

The state tree of Maryland? The white oak! Made mostly from quartersawn walnut, I used quartersawn white oak for the inside of the cellarette and curly white oak for the drawers. I added theses great white oak Hepplewhite pulls from Horton Brasses

Did you know Maryland has a state fossil? It does, Ecphora garnerae. An ancient snail whose fossils can still be found at the Calvert Cliffs.

When I designed this cellarette, I wanted something that was uniquely Maryland themed. I designed the ornamental shells of the legs loosely off of a picture of Ecphora.
