The Asante Public Library by Richärd Kennedy Architects, in Surprise, Arizona, features a dynamic facade with metal c-channel canopies, capturing dappled sunlight and shadows. Designed to blend with the desert landscape, it includes a large reading room with full-height glazing for mountain views and flexible interiors.

As comes to a close, we are excited to unveil the conceptual design for the new City of Palm Desert Municipal Library—a project that reflects the enduring role of libraries as cultural and community anchors.

Designed as a “library within a palm grove,” the concept takes full advantage of
Palm Desert’s striking desert landscape and year-round climate. The expansive canopy structure provides shade and shelter while blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor space, creating a vibrant civic destination for learning, gathering, and inspiration.

Unique program spaces—including a community pod, visitor center, meeting rooms, and a lab and innovation studio—reinforce the library’s vital role as a provider of diverse community resources and services.

We’re honored to collaborate with the City of Palm Desert on a library that not only meets the evolving needs of its patrons, but celebrates the unique sense of place that defines this community.

It’s and we’re showing a little love for one of our communities’ most beloved libraries — Desert Broom Public Library. 📚

Borrowing from the symbiotic relationship of young saguaro cacti and its nurse tree along the arroyos edge, the expansive roof creates a shaded microclimate, providing filtered daylight, shelter, and a nurturing environment for intellectual growth.
