Is it better to buy landscape rock by the ton or by the square foot?

Most contractors quote rock by the ton so their bid looks artificially cheap on paper. Then halfway through the install, they either hit you up for another $500 because they ran short, or they stretch the rock paper-thin so your dirt shows through in six months.

We charge by the square foot so we can bring an extra 5 tons of rock if that’s what it takes to make the yard look thick and complete.

I saw a house down the road where a contractor left rock, trash, and pallets taking over the street for two full weeks.

That is complete insanity.

When you hire a contractor, you're paying for the entire experience, not just the outcome. I pay a dedicated project manager to stay on our job sites specifically to manage safety, keep things organized, and sweep the street every afternoon.

You shouldn't have to raise your blood pressure chasing a crew around with a broom.

Whoever installed this yard in Gilbert three months ago needs their license revoked immediately.

Not only did they lay pavers on pure sand without an ABC rock base, but they also used cheap fiberglass window screen mesh to cover a drain pipe.

Surprise, surprise—three months later, the entire drain is completely packed with mud and backed up. We are ripping it out and installing a proper deck drain tied directly to the main outlet.
