The term “friction-maxxing” was coined by writer Kathryn Jezer-Morton in her Brooding essay for The Cut, “In 2026, We Are Friction-Maxxing.”

At its core, friction maxing is about intentionally bringing a little bit of healthy inconvenience back into your life.

And honestly? I get it!

We’re living in an age where everything is being optimized, automated, skipped, streamlined, and made instantly available.

So going back to analog feels like more than nostalgia.

It feels necessary.

The world is losing its color, but your home doesn’t have to. 🎨

One of my favorite parts about design is that every piece adds to your palette.

The wallpaper.
The tile.
The paint color you were almost too nervous to try.
The little accents that make your home feel like you.

My hot take: we should be fighting to keep color in our everyday lives. ✨

Color can make a room feel warmer, more playful, more creative, more alive. It can wake up a corner, tell a story, and make your home feel a little less like a showroom and a lot more like you.

And honestly? Beige has had a very long run.
