The Building Center, Inc. The Building Center is a family owned & operated building material supplier based out of Pineville, NC.

The Building Center, Inc., founded in the Charlotte metro market in 1977, has grown into one of the largest non-publicly traded lumber and building products dealers in the US.

“We’ve built our business on providing excellent and consistent service to our builder customers,” said CEO and founder, Ed Norris. Accordingly, The Building Center maintains a fleet of over 300 trucks to service the Carol

inas, with locations in Georgetown SC, Columbia SC, Holly Hill SC, Easley SC, Rock Hill SC, Pineville NC, Gastonia NC, Boone NC, Greensboro NC, Mebane NC, Monroe NC, and Ocean Isle Beach NC. The Building Center leverages its sizable regional presence to purchase and sell branded and commodity products at competitive market prices. Inventories are maintained and managed to meet the needs of individual markets, regional building practices, and metro architectural trends.

“Our mission is to be our customer’s most valued building partner,” said Skip Norris, President. “That means we have products he or she needs on hand, trucks to deliver, and manufacturing support throughout every inch of the Carolinas.”

This level of ready product availability and service includes truss plants in north and central North Carolina and millwork/door shops in both the Triad and Charlotte metro locations. Additionally, custom millwork and prefab components are built-in Pineville, which also sources and fabricates exotic wood products like reclaimed lumber flooring, siding, cabinetry, and mantles.

We're excited to kick off a brand-new series following a custom home build from the ground up in the beautiful Sedgefield neighborhood of South Charlotte! The Building Center is proud to partner with GC Design Build, Inc. on this incredible 5,000-square-foot custom home project. From the foundation to the final finishes, this home will be built using materials and products supplied by The Building Center, showcasing the quality, service, and solutions we provide every step of the way.

Over the coming months, we'll take you behind the scenes as this project comes to life—highlighting construction milestones, product selections, craftsmanship, and the teamwork that goes into creating a truly exceptional home.

Custom details make all the difference — and these stunning projects by THR Design Build, Inc showcase craftsmanship at every turn. Our talented Millwork Department supplied the corbels, shutters, and beautiful white oak nickel gap used throughout the ceiling applications, helping bring timeless character and warmth to these homes. Exterior shots featuring the brackets and shutters from both homes truly highlight the architectural detail, while the rear black Lincoln Doors create a bold and elegant finishing touch.

Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We also want to recognize and thank the Veterans and Active Military members across our team. Your service, dedication, and commitment are deeply appreciated, and we are grateful to have you as part of the TBC family.

In observance of Memorial Day, all The Building Center locations are closed today, Monday, May 25th. We will resume normal business hours tomorrow, Tuesday, May 26th. As we spend time with family and friends today, we remember the true meaning of this holiday and honor those who gave so much for our freedom.

On Saturday, May 23 from 10 AM – 2 PM in Pfafftown, NC, visitors will have the opportunity to tour multiple homes in various phases of construction and get an inside look at the craftsmanship, planning, and quality building materials supplied by The Building Center that help bring these custom homes to life.
