The most recent update on the Piqua City Ordinance to regulate rental property registrations, has resulted in the passage of this significant city initiative. The ordinance passed by a vote of 3-2 on September 5 had several changes from what was initially introduced earlier.

Specifically, (1) property owners were relieved of the obligation to notify the city when tenants changed, (2) an appeals process was incorporated, entrusting the Board of Zoning Appeals with the responsibility of adjudicating disagreements between Code Officials and property owners, and (3) a provision was added stipulating that if a landlord applies for a rental property license and no code violations are reported, the property is presumed to be compliant with the city's property maintenance code.

At the last Piqua Council Meeting held on July 18th, a discussion ensued regarding the sale of the former Bennett Junior High School to a Dayton developer. Questions were asked -- answers were not forthcoming. In fact, the City Attorney and City Manager denied knowledge of the sale of the property for $1 and claimed that citizens should not believe everything they read. , , , , ,

Please note the normal Piqua City Council Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 2nd. The location has also been moved to the Fort Piqua Plaza Banquet Center - 4th Floor.

Among other items on the agenda will be further discussion of Ordinance No 0-6-23 which is to adopt new rental housing regulations. This is the 3rd reading!
