Those gray wood and black streaks aren't just cosmetic. It's a sign of log rot. Watch while we bring this log home back to life.

Does this look familiar to you? This is what happens when bleach is used improperly.

We don't recommend homeowners or anyone without log home restoration experience use it. This is because it can cause significant issues and needs to be used sparingly.

If you don't get it all off you may face stain adhesion issues. We've seen stains come off in sheets when bleach isn't removed completely. It typically requires you to rinse at least 3 times with a pressure washer to remove or neutralize it.

Save this for later so you don't forget when it comes time to maintain your log home.

Happy Memorial Day! We hope you're enjoying a day with family and friends up at the cabin.

Look what we found hiding underneath this log wall. Log rot.

There can be lots of reasons this happens, such as insects, moisture, fungi, or a combination of all three. It's important that once you notice signs of log rot, you call in an expert to evaluate the damage. Give us a call (828) 585-7472, and we'll send someone out for an on-site inspection. Do this BEFORE you blast or wash your log home...

Protect your windows and doors. It may look simple on the outside, but proper prep can save you money and time wasted on clean-up. Keep in mind it’s not perfect (some media will get through).

But for a basic log home wash, blue painter’s tape and thin plastic can help protect windows and doors from water and cleaning products.

Media blasting though requires thicker plastic, careful taping, and extra protection so it doesn't damage windows, doors, or trim. Our goal is to protect your log home while keeping tape residue off the surfaces.

Good log home restoration starts before the blasting or washing begins.

Here's something we see a lot. Log rot around windows and doors. Sealant fail. Flashing is improperly installed, or checks can trap moisture, leading to rot around windows and doors. To fix, replace the rotting logs and seal the joints with a high-quality sealant like Log Jam, Permachink, Log Builder, or Energy Seal.
