This Victorian home, built in 1906, is nestled in the Bakery Square area of Pittsburgh, Pa. Using the original stained glass window as the focal point, we built the entire design around its rich green detailing and the historic feel of the home — ultimately landing on an Art Deco–inspired design with timeless personality and charm.

Aging in place doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style.

For these homeowners, we transformed a first-floor bedroom and bathroom into a space designed for long-term comfort, accessibility, and beautiful everyday living.

This project included:
• A complete bathroom remodel
• Expanding the bathroom into an existing closet
• Adding a new window in the bathroom for natural light
• Widening the bedroom entry and installing a 36” bathroom door for easier accessibility
• Carefully planning vanity height, shower bench height, and shower curb dimensions with future wheelchair accessibility in mind
• Adding four tall storage cabinets — two in the bathroom and two in the bedroom — for additional clothing and linen storage
• Installing additional recessed lighting in the bedroom
• Using stained cherry Wood-Mode cabinetry with grain-matched doors to complement the homeowners’ Mid-Century Modern aesthetic

Thoughtful design today can help homeowners stay comfortable, safe, and independent for years to come.

We brought this home back to its original character by eliminating the bay windows and simplifying the lines—absolutely nailed it.

Swapping out double-hung windows for sleek casements made a huge difference in both function and style. Before anything was ordered, we used Pella Design Works to create renderings, giving the homeowner a clear vision of the transformation ahead.

The result? A full-home window upgrade that completely elevates curb appeal and feels true to the home’s design.
