Put Your Best House Forward
Welcome feeling can happen way before your guest reach the front door. It’s not always easy to tell what make one house more welcoming then another. A few easy and thoughtful adjustments can do wonders to any home. It doesn’t take a big budget to create an outstanding curb appeal. Just by considering these few tips you can send you welcome mat to the curb. Less can say more! When there is too much in the yard it harder to maintain and keep weeds under control. Plants struggle for space and nutrients. Consider color contrast and balance to your flower beds. Contrast dictates what you see first, like yellow flowers next to red brick. Symmetrical window boxes can create a since of stability. Mulching and pruning are two of the best ways boost your curb appeal. Mulch is not only for color but it helps prevent weeds, and maintains moisture. Avoid dyed mulch which can contain contaminants consider tree bark or wood chips. Two inches of fresh mulch onto your beds each spring provides vital organic fertilizers for your plants. Pruning can help with issues like leggy or more branches then greenery on your shrubs. It allows for light to get to the inside of the plants making them denser and fuller. Best to get your hand tools instead of the motorized pruning tools that just skim the surface. Every shrub doesn’t take to pruning as well as others. Boxwood, Holly, Taxus, Privet and Laurel become more lust and neater, but others like Juniper, Spruces, and Cedars don’t respond well to it. Talk to an expert at your nursery to find out how much maintenance your plants require. Then by adding lights to the flower beds, instead of just along the pathways, adds warmth. Placing lights in your taller plant shinning down can creates a soft natural glow. Of course your favorite specimen tree or row of shrubs can be put in the spotlight with up-light fixtures in the yard. Don’t forget what good pouch lighting can do to create a welcoming feeling.
