From deck inspection to a total backyard upgrade!

This McCandless home called us out to take a look at their existing deck. What began as a simple inspection turned into a complete, top-to-bottom outdoor living space, and it’s one of our favorite transformations to date.

A louvered roof with a motorized drop screen for true all-weather living. Integrated lighting throughout. A picture frame border with zero visible screws. And beneath it all, flashing tape protecting the substructure for the long haul.

Moral of the story? You never know what an inspection might turn into.

It always looks worse before it looks better…and this O’Hara Township transformation is proof!

Featuring:

🪵 17x20 deck with stairs, Deckorators Voyage decking in Khaya
🖤 Westbury Tuscany textured black aluminum railings
🥂 3.5” Deckorators Voyage drink rail
🪨 4x3 exposed aggregate paver landing at the base of the stairs

Beyond what you can see, this build got the details that make a deck last: flashing tape wrapped through the entire substructure, closed stair risers, and railings on both sides. The drink rail and that paver landing are the kind of finishing touches that take a deck from great to unforgettable.

A hillside isn’t a problem. It’s an opportunity. 😎

Building on a slope like this Squirrel Hill lot takes more than skill, it takes the right approach and the right materials. And when it’s done right, the result is something a flat yard could never give you.
