Jason M. Roth, Architect

Jason M. Roth, Architect I established my independent practice in order to provide design expertise to clients and communities that have not always been served by architects.

I believe that the practice of architecture is not merely about building structures, but about solving problems at any scale, from residential bathrooms to historic facades and community plans. To me, these present the most interesting and challenging projects. To that end, I always begin projects by asking questions, listening to clients, and working to understand their needs and concerns. Prior

to exploring architectural responses, we develop a joint understanding about how the client wishes to use the spaces and places we will create. Not only does this lead to the most useful designs, but it also broadens the possibilities for unique and cost-effective solutions. My areas of focus are primarily residential and commercial construction, with an emphasis on green design, historic preservation, and urban living. While not every project involves these elements, I believe that the three are interconnected and mutually reinforcing.

I've been lucky to work with Jasmine on the home she shares with her partner, which will include a small storefront for Yummyholic. Exciting!

Exciting news. The newest addition to Pittsburgh’s ethnic tapestry is the Nepali/Bhutanese population that has developed in the South Hills along the Route 51 corridor—there’s a stretch with markets and delicious restaurants.

They are ready to start building institutions, and as of today I’m the architect for a brand new social hall/community center/worship space that this organization is working on. Due diligence phase, so no details yet, but this is a big one. Can’t wait to dig in and learn many new things!

From 10 years ago, the obituary of Natalie de Blois, an incredibly important part of SOM's heyday.

Almost invisibly in her own day, Natalie de Blois, of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, helped guide the design of three of the most important corporate landmarks of the 1950s and ’60s.

This morning featured a site visit to the County Airport, where I’ll be working on either refurbishing a 1962 hangar or designing a brand new one.

Regardless, I will NOT be working on the immaculate Hornbostel terminal building.

I'm very excited and proud to be working on this visionary project. We've completed a new roof, and this Kickstarter is to raise funds for new windows. After that, the basement will be renovated for a social hall and the first apartment.

Tonight I attended the soft opening for one of my longest-running projects, the Steel Mill Saloon on Grandview Ave. Lots of challenges on this one, but pretty great to see things I drew in 2018 come to life. You should stop by for a drink.

One of my clients, EOS, is mentioned in this article. There’s nothing glamorous about the work, but it’s pretty cool working with a company that’s part of a greener energy future located inside a giant shed from our industrial past.

Big batteries have arrived in Pennsylvania — if not in physical form yet, then in the growing number of efforts to bring them here. In late September,...
