Rail fence blocks are up next for the Steel City Quilt!

This is why I love strip piecing. Sew a few strips together, make some cuts, shuffle things around, and suddenly you’ve got a whole stack of blocks coming together.

These batiks are making this quilt so fun to watch take shape. And we’re getting closer to seeing the full Pittsburgh-inspired design come together.

Want to make one too? Grab your Steel City Quilt kit from The Sewing Box Quilt Shop at sewingboxquiltshop.com before they sell out. Use code SteeleMakes for free shipping and a free sticker with your purchase.

First block of the Steel City Quilt is done! ⭐️

We’re starting with a star, and this reel covers a few of my favorite piecing tips: working with batiks, cutting by measuring with your ruler instead of trusting the lines on your mat, making half-square triangles, and nesting those seams for nice, crisp intersections.

And this is just the beginning!

Want to make your own Steel City Quilt? The kit is available now from The Sewing Box Quilt Shop at sewingboxquiltshop.com. Grab yours before they sell out, and use code SteeleMakes for free shipping AND a free sticker with your purchase.

Follow along to see this one come together!

If your rotary cutter blade is starting to feel like it needs a wrestling match to cut fabric… it’s time to change it. 😂

And maybe, just maybe, double check that you put the new blade back together correctly. Ask me how I know.

A fresh blade = cleaner cuts, less frustration, and fewer passes over the same piece of fabric.

Consider this your sign to check your blade today!

A day at Stitchburgh, PA 🧶

Come spend the day with me at Stitchburgh! Yarn, knitting, crochet, fiber friends, shopping, and plenty of inspiration packed into one very fun day.

Basically, a perfect excuse to add more yarn to the stash. 😂

Day two of the In The Sewing Room quilt along, and this gorgeous fat quarter stack has me in love!
This block was designed by Liza Taylor, and it features some of my massive collection of Tula Pink scraps.
I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s block!

This one has been waiting for its quilt drop moment. ✂️

My Bolt’s Bow Tie quilt, made with the absolutely gorgeous Yesterday by Anna Maria Textiles. The mix of color, print and all those little details makes this one so much fun to look at.

Another quilt out of the WIP pile and officially ready for its close-up.

My block for day one of the In The Sewing Room quilt along is finished, and if you’ve followed me for any period of time, you’ll know that starting with an iron is perfect for me! I’m always going on and on about the importance of pressing your fabrics when making a quilt. I honestly spend more time at the ironing board than at the sewing machine!
This block is designed by Hunter's Design Studio and I dug I to my Tula Pink scrap stash to bring it to life.
What’s your favorite sewing room tool?

The quilt top is DONE! 🎄

After all those blocks, sashing, cornerstones, and a little questionable border technique, Under the Tree is officially ready for quilting.

I used Cozy Christmas by Anna Maria Textiles for this one, and I love how the different prints come together in the finished top.

Now comes the hard part… deciding how to quilt it.
