Not sure if you’ve heard, but it’s cold out! If the weather people are right, tomorrow may be the coldest in quite a long time…do me favor, and yourself, DO NOT turn your heat down! If your system was sized properly, it will not turn off in this weather. for some it may be a late start already, but turn up from your normal settings, try to roll into tomorrow with a running start! We design systems with a 60 degree rise ( in general) based off outside temperature bieng 10; 10 degrees outside, plus the 60 degree design rise gives you a comfy 70 degrees inside. When it all works out…so tomorrow when it’s 0 out and it’s only 60 inside, you are doing well(still got that magical 60 degree difference, right?). Well, IF we do see -10…you can do the math right? Don’t panic. But also, don’t f around with your thermostat (s). Why don’t we design for colder temperatures is a fair question; it’s because we seldom see 10 degrees here for more than a few hours, and every time it’s warmer than that your heater is oversized for the job, and an oversized heating system is very inefficient, and the off on cycles actually shortens it’s life expectancy. So, long post in reader’s digest format , hands off the thermostat, expect the equipment to run long, and if you can keep it 60-65 or so, thank your friendly heating guy for getting you into a properly sized and efficient system!
