And with the mighty swipe of Edward’s long sword, the 2024 Olivetti Pumpkin is in the books. Easily my most challenging year ever. Even as I “rolled” it to the middle of my yard, I found a soft spot that will cause the entire thing to rot in short time. But I call it a victory. Squirrels, Rabbits, Squash Vine Borers, squirrels, Cucumber Beetles, unrelenting heat, and also squirrels to name a few. If nothing more, we’ve again entertained and annoyed the neighborhood. Fear not Olivetti Place, we’ll do it again next year. If you want to grow your own neighborhood blight, your boy got your seeds!!!

Hail Sara - 9/11/24

I’m pretty happy with the outcome given the problems we encountered this year. The pumpkin itself is just over a month old. Had the initial pollination(s!) taken, it would be significantly larger. With that said, we’re squeezing whatever size we can out of the remaining decent weather. Almost done!

Hopefully will get it on a board and out of the grass tomorrow. I wasn’t here when the pollination occurred but I’m estimating right about 20 days since pollination. Not a ton of time left and just about nothing has gone to plan. Despite that, she’s growing well!
